This thread will be more successful that my download of the day. I promise.

This thread will be dedicated to the Chump and the Champ of the night in the NBA. The Chump will be the player with the worst line of the night. The Champ will be the player with the best line of the night. Very basic. Even Fastshow should get this.

Champ of the Night : Antoine Walker, Boston Celtics.

What an evening for the former Kentucky Wildcat. 47 minutes played, 24 points, 18 rebounds, 9 assists, a steal and a block - just a single dish away from a triple double. Celts kicked the Pacers 101-93.

Chump of the Night : Andrei Kirilenko, Utah Jazz

As much as it pains me to say it, the Jazz are dead. The talk out of Utah is that this Russian bean pole could be replacing Malone once the Mailman's playing days are over. 3-for-15 shooting (9 points), 4 rebounds and a turnover in 24 minutes? Ugly. Jazz got pounded by the Hawks, 111-79.

Champ of the Night : Steve Francis, Houston Rockets.

12 rebounds, five assists and 26 points in 49 minutes played. Rockets lost to the Lakers 97-98 in OT.

Chump of the Night : Jason Williams, Memphis Grizzlies

4-12 shooting, including 0-4 from three point land - good for a measley eight points in 30 minutes of action. Oh yeah, four turnovers to boot. Go White Chocolate go. Grizz lose 101-85.

I actually had Battier as the Champ of the night despite the loss. Williams was my chump too along with.....Michael Heisley.....

Look at the fcuking attendance. I love it.

BTW, although he could be one of your 'white' heroes, Dirk Nowitzki had a stinker tonight going 3 for 14, including 0 for 3 from downtown, and only grabbing 1 offensive rebound in 33 minutes of action. Pretty bad when you're a 7 footer and you snag one offensive board.

Captain who hopes he hasn't stepped on Sensei's toes.

Champ of the Night : Michael Jordan, Washington Wizards

No need for explanation here as Jordan popped for the highest game scoring total in the league this season. 44 points, seven boards and three assists in 41 minutes of action. The Wiz still lost to the Jazz by nine.

Chump of the Night : Jeff McInnis, Los Angeles Clippers

3-13 shooting (including 0/3 from behind the arc) and two turnovers in 39 minutes. Not the kind of numbers you want from the starting PG on a team full of talented swingmen. Stop shooting!

Week-end Champs and Chumps

Champ of the Weekend : Kevin Garnett, T-Wolves...

A guy who puts up great all-around numbers on a regular basis, KG outdid himself Saturday, accounting for 37 of his team's 90 points, with 12 boards and four assists as well. Another 40+ minute night for Da Kid.

Chump of the Weekend : Raef Lafrentz, Nuggets...

This guy has been an underachiever for a long time. As a starting center, Raef pulled down a pitiful two rebounds and notched seven points before fouling out after just 25 minutes of action. And the Nuggets continute to struggle.

Monday Night Chump & Champ

Champ of the Night : Scott Pollard, Sacramento Kings

Yeah, the guy is a goof and not much more than a better version of Cherokee Parks. But he's been working magic for the Kings with Webber out of the lineup. Last night, Pollard put up 12 points and 14 boards in a whitewash victory over the Rockets. He also got another start and played 36 minutes....not bad for a guy who has no jump in his jumpshot.

Chump of the Night : Jason Kidd, New Jersey Nets

Its not really fair to pick on a guy who has totally revitalized a sagging franchise, but Kidd was downright awful in last night's loss to Denver. In a game which the Nets really should have won, Kidd was 2-14 shooting (an ugly 1-10 from three point land) and had as many points (5) as he did turnovers. The lone bright spot? He did have 13 assists.

Tuesday Night.....

can only mean one thing!

Champ of the Night : is a tie.

First, Hakeem Olajuwon of the Toronto Raptors. Hobbled with creaky knees and asthma to boot, the Dream played 43 minutes tonight, scoring 14 points, pulling down 20 rebounds, and blocking five shots. Chipped in with a steal and two assists.

Second, Jamaal Tinsley of the Indiana Pacers. Here's a guy who had a great college career at Iowa State, and was then passed over by 26 NBA teams before being selected by the Grizzlies at 27. In a move that shouts "Versace", the Grizz shipped Tins to the Pacers as compensation in the complex Shareef-to-Atlanta deal that somehow involved Indiana. Anyways, he's the early Rookie of the Year award candidate, and tonite he led the Pacers with 29 points, 11 assists, three rebounds and two steals. And he's now made Travis Best totally expendable.

Chump of the Night : Anthony Carter, Miami Heat.

Riles must be loving this Tim Hardaway replacement. In 26 minutes as the team's starting PG, Carter dished out a measely 6 assists, and had as many rebounds (zero) as he did field goals (0-5) and points (zero). Heat lose, again, 80-73.

Another possibility

Sensei,

Jason Terry had Champ of the Night numbers too. Did you see them?

He had 35 points, on 12-22 FG, 5/5FT, and 6/12 3PTS, as well as 6 assists and only had 1 turnover. He had 4 rebounds too. Pretty good night but like Washington again, they lost.

Abdur-Rahim is really helping the Hawks......:(

Saw those numbers. Terry is emerging as a quality player, probably the best the Hawks have.

Feel free to include chump/champ numbers whenever you feel like it. But I will draw the line at Coppertone nominating Jordan as Champ of the Night 7 times a week.

Its about that time....

for Champ of the Night : Tracy McGracy, Orlando Magic.

The next Dr.J (no, I won't stop referring to him as that) popped for 39 points, seven rebounds and eight assists to help the Magic knock off the #1 team in the West, Minnesota. He may be a selfish, crybaby-like bitch, but goddamn, can he play ball.

Special consideration should go to Spurs forward Tim Duncan, who scored 30 points on 14-17 shooting (he missed three frickin shots all game) and had 13 boards.

Chump of the Night : Latrell Sprewell, New York Knicks.

The Knicks have been remarkably bad this season, and even worse when Spree isn't on his game. In a 96-72 pasting at the hands of the Suns, Crime Spree went 2-12 shooting with a pitiful four rebounds and an assist in 35 minutes of action. Somewhere, PJ Carlesimo is smiling. Or choking.

Tim Duncan's numbers were very impressive tonight too. I notice McGrady on made 13 - 30 field goals, where the big fella went a solid 82% from the field, as well as grabbing 13 boards. Definitely an impressive evening.

better late than never...

Champ of the Night : Jamaal Tinsley, Pacers

While I try to stray from giving the same player this prestigious honor two times in a week, you can't ignore the numbers Tins put up last night. He set an Indiana Pacers team record for his 23 assists against the Wizards - he also put up 19 points and 11 rebounds for another triple-double. Nice work Versace on giving up this kid. Why not just give him the rookie of the year award now?

Chump of the Night : Morris Peterson, Raptors

Call it a sophmore slump. 3-15 shooting for 6 points, no assists and just three rebounds. MoPete has been a nice pickup for the Raps over the last year and a half, but last night he was awful from the field, and missed a wide-open three pointer late which would have tied up the game.

Even I can choose this one, Sensei...

Champ of the Night - As much as it hurts me to post this, Shareef has to be the man tonight.

50 PTS, 12 boards, 5 assists, 3 steals

He was 21/30 in FG and 8/8 in FT. That is a fcuking great night.

I will leave the Chump of the Man, Sensei.

bow down

Agreed. Even I can't argue with those numbers. What a performance.

I'm going to have to do a week-end review of Chumps n' Champs on Sunday evening, as I am currently holed up in my girlfriend's apartment in Victoria, typing this out on a shitty laptop computer with a dial-up internet access cutting out every 5 seconds. Shows my dedication to the TTP cause, no?

That being said, I'd be honored if the Captain could take the reigns for this thread for yesterday and tonight's b-ball action. Go wild Burnsie. Go wild.

Great dedication...........

Okay Sensei, here they are. I am hammered surprisingly enough at 3:00 in the morning. My buddy dragged me away from the roulette wheel just before number 2 came up, which would have been a $500 profit, but still I am more than willing to make things work here. Anyway, here are the stats for the night and BTW, my buddy that dragged me away and I won $228 on a $10 bet today in Sports Action. It is all about angles. All about angles......

Chump of the Night Charles Oakley

He went 0 for 3 in 29 minutes and grabbed a shitty 4 rebounds and turned the ball over twice. I can't stand at the best of times, so this performance fully deserves the chump of the night.......

Champ of the Night Steve Nash...

Despite his 4 turnovers, Victoria's main man scored 29 points on 10 - 17 field goals(3/6 on 3PTers), along with 6/6 FT shooting AND
9 assists. Hopefully this is the man, Sensei. I figured you would be in agreement for political reasons, if nothing else.....

Are you sure I said that?

Jinky,

I couldn't find that quote. However, if I did in fact type it, the answer is yes. They are that bad and getting worse......

its baaaaaaack

Tonight's Champ of the Night : Clifford Robinson, Pistons

Talk about the resurgent Detroit squad and you have to mention Robinson, who was a great off-season pickup (I believe they gave up Jud Buechler and John Wallace for him). With Stackhouse out of the lineup, CRob popped for 30 points, 10 rebounds and four assists in 44 minutes, the most played out of any Piston tonight. Big game for Cliff in knocking off T-Mac and the Magic 105-100.

and theChump of the Night : Jason Terry, Hawks

The usually potent outside shooter went 4-12 from the field with just 10 points. The Hawks fail to gain any ground in the East with a tough 88-83 loss to a very average Knicks team.

Special Mention Performances : Can't ignore Marcus Camby's return to action, 35 minutes, 18 points, 10 rebounds. Finally the inside presence the Knicks so badly need. And this also mean we don't have to watch Felton Spencer play anymore.

The Grizz also pulled a huge upset, knocking off the Kings 98-94. White Chocollah had 19 points and 13 assists, but I won't even go near his FG%......ugh.

Tough to pass Stephan Marbury....

This game just ended , Sensei. What do you think of these numbers? The look pretty good to the Captain....

10-17FG
10-14FT
3-7-3PTers
8 assists

for a 33 point night and a victory over the Utah Jazz. They appear to be finished by the way.....
