Report: Andrea Pirlo agrees to join New York City FC
Andrea Pirlo is reportedly on his way across the Atlantic to feature in Major League Soccer following the Champions League final.
The Italian midfielder will appear in one final match for Juventus when they play Barcelona in the Champions League final after accepting an offer to join New York City FC, according to Spanish publication AS, who spoke with the team's CEO Ferran Soriano.
Neither team have confirmed the report, and are unlikely to do so until the conclusion of Saturday's Champions League final. They would likely want to avoid any distractions before such a critical match.
If true, Pirlo becomes the third European superstar to join MLS's newest team. He would feature in a midfield consisting of Chelsea's all-time leading scorer, Frank Lampard, while playing behind the Spanish national team's all-time leading scorer, David Villa.
Pirlo was reportedly a back-up plan after the American team failed to lure Barcelona midfielder Xavi, who signed with Qatari side Al Sadd.
Pirlo, whose contract expires next summer, scored four goals in 20 Serie A matches during Juve's fourth consecutive title-winning campaign.
