I couldn't agree more, TB. He is a fcuking cnut. Whoever made this decision, was/is obviously sponsored by LePage glue. Shocking when you think of it.....
Bourque is a fossil and doesn't deserve to have his jersey retired after 2 years......
Life is unfair.....BTW, thanks for taking me away from the Casino, after a big win.
i have to disagree with you guys.. they retired his jersey out of respect.would the avs won it if bourque(sp) wasnt there?? knowone knows.
bourque(sp) has done alot in and for the nhl. he was one of the best defenceman of all time and meant a great deal to their organization..
and the avs were the last team he played for before retiring..
I think that if Colorado want to retire the number then so be it. Bourque helped the team capture a stanley Cup and was a big factor in it. He is a great defenceman. He has done a lot on and off the ice. So, who cares if he was with the team only a couple of seasons. The Avs respect Bourque and that is probably the main reason for the retirement of his number.
ok lets say if lemieux(sp) came to vancouver after 1.5 years the win the cup and then he retires. would you retire his jersey in vancouver as well as in pittsburgh
its the whole respect issue. its what that player has done in his career and what hes done for your organization.. come on regs your a fossil ray bourque is definately one of the top defenceman of all time.. even with colorado in his 19th and 20th season he was outstanding. he helped the organization on and off the ice.. he showed leadership and character from the time he arrived in colorado.. thats why to show how grateful the organization is they retired his sweater
Colorado was a Cup contender before Raymond go there...
Yes, he did make them a stronger team, but he was not the deciding factor in winning/losing the cup.
I agree Bourque should go into staright into the Hall Of Fame, and yes the BRUINS should retire his number for all his years of service to that organization...on and off the ice.
But, Colorado????
So is that the only reason you retire a number is for service. That is bullshit. Then maybe when Benoit Brunet retires Montreal should retire his number, he played with the team for 9 seasons.
A player does not have to play with a team for 10 years to have his number retired.
i have to agree with copp. you dont get your jersey retired for years you get it for contribution. bourque contributed BIG time for colorado in the 2 years he was there and they showed there apprecition for it
You guys are not getting it. It shouldn't be an either/or thing... it should be for both. Years of service and accomplishment.
Do you think Detroit will retire Hasek's number when he retires? Hull's? Of course not.
The only reason Bourque got his number retired in Colorado was due to media hype. Ponder this: if Ray Bourque wore a more conventional number, do you think Colorado would've made the same move?
i think they still would.. bourque was an icon and a role model for young children..
hull is not.. hes taught children to go where the money is and selling out your country..
hasek if he does what hes capable i wouldnt be surprised if the did retire his jersey. hes a great goaltender and has proven himself time and time again
The same question can be asked of Trever Linden in N.Y. Im sure he did the same great things off the Ice there as he did here all those years! The Canucks will no doubt retire #16 but will the Islanders? I don't think so!
wtf.. 2 totally different situations.. linden was shite in ny. and was shite in montreal and in washington.they didnt even make the playoffs with him(wash did). he wasnt even used as role player on either of those teams..
bourque not only led the avs to the playoffs he led them all the way to the cup and was a big component in winning the cup.. yes it helps to have sakic blake and roy but it was leadership that led the way
That Colorado was just dying to retire someones number and be considered a staple in the NHL History by doing so?
Sure they have championship banners, but how many retired numbers?
I think Colorado should have said thanks, see ys later to Bourque and let the Bruins do the right thing.
Bourque went to COlorado to win a cup. Period.
Not to become a staple in the community, or do Denver Charity events....no, no. He was selfish. He wanted a cup, and joined a team with a legitimate shot. If he had joined The Wings, or the Flyers, and in his second season did the same as he did with the Avs, do you think the Flyers or wings would retire his number??
I just dont see the logic in Colorado retiring his number...dont see it.
Beater~
Was he not the Captain in NY???? Linden is not my real point here! The point is(like the one in your head) he was there for two years to do one thing like Zaurrini said and that was to win a cup. Is was not there to be a member of the Aspen community he was there to play hockey! Look him up in the book sometime but he'll be under B for Bourque and BOSTON!
