This is where I feel very fortunate to actually be middle ground. I accepted the vax because simply, I've always believed in them. Take them for travel, take my yearly flu shot, you name it. I am healthy and have never had an adverse affect, so it was easy for me. I also trust science and don't believe the conspiracy theories, and that is the big thing.

I have some friends that are not vaxxed. These guys are in their own heads in a bad way and I feel terrible for them. The walls are closing in, their world's shrinking by the day. Both have convictions today they will not stand down, which is sad, because physically, they are healthy and stand no risk. This is about either a political stance, or believing the scientific conspiracies, or in their cases, both.

Politically, I fall on the same side, I think it's way, way over the top. I draw a line at the crazy stuff. These guys....they are suffering bad right now, one staring down the barrel of losing his job over his convictions. What a terrible place to be. We are supposed to have certain rights and freedoms here, and this "choice" has being unilaterally foisted upon everyone. "It's your choice not to take it, so also your choice not to work". Lame.

Are we allowed to talk about how Canada is way over the top in ostracizing the unvaxxed, or is that taboo?

@johnnybluenose....

I guess. Personally don’t care if someone is unvaxxed. But I have zero sympathy that they can’t travel, may lose their job and can’t go to restaurants. We have a friend that refuses and it already annoys me that we adapt plans for them because they can’t go places. The reason or lack of education on why they aren’t is hard to listen to. I have no problem with people feeling reservations with logical reasoning. You lose me on the conspiracy theory stuff. Or wild pseudoscience

If we had private health care insurance then non vaccinated people would pay huge premiums. If you but instead our socialist system forces us to subsidize the unvaccinated.

I am on the side of empathy. I think that the European approach seems reasonable with a green card. If you have had the virus and have natural immunity, good to go.

I still respect people’s right to choose and right to employment. I feel certain professions should have mandatory Vax, but it’s gotten nuts. We are an industrial supply and service company, and some of our major customers have mandated service providers are 2vax. It’s over the too. Thankfully all of ours are and we did not have to ask, but….I still don’t love it.

That being said, again, good to be middle ground.

I think taking a moderate approach was fine with the first variant of covid 19. It had a r rating over over just 1 which basically means one person would only spread it to another.

Given this we only needed around 65 to 70 percent of people vaxxed and it would have burnt out.

Delta changed that. Delta goes from one from person to 7 very quickly.That is why there are so many more mandates and so much more pressure for people to get the vaccine as it can now strain our health system very fast compared to the original strain.

Had the original strain remained and delta never took over covid 19 in north america would have been in the rearview mirror.

Having said that this I think is the last big wave as we have so many vaxxed now and so many with natural immunity. No variant will outpace delta now and the pace of spread is slowing. So there is light at the end of the tunnel now as its is starting to run out of bodies to infect. We will go fron pandemic to endemic towards early spring.

We also pay for people smoking a couple packs a day, people drinking 6L of orange crush a day, alcoholics etc etc. People make unhealthy choices everyday that costs money.

Well yeah, this has been lost in all the debate. Most people suffering from COVID are unhealthy to begin with. Our Medicare system doesn't delineate, and I'm not asking for that. Part of being Canadian means a right to medical care, NO MATTER WHAT, and I would never want to change that.

My two buddies who are unvaxed are quite literally the healthiest humans I know, and that is their bone of contention...why should they be putting something in their bodies that they don't feel is good for them, when in fact they are already extremely healthy individuals? The counter point of course is, they could be A-Symptomatic carriers of the virus and pass it along to a fatty. I give my counter point then respectfully listen...that is, until the Nanobots come into play, then I check out.

I've heard some talk- and this is just Twatter chatter- of people wanting to prioritize the vax vs. unvaxed in hospitals. Sorry, that's not the way it works, because otherwise I could say, "Hey Fatty, yeah you with the cheeseburger in your pocket and smoking the dart, back of the line."
