Anyone travelled to the states recently?

Couple of questions

I have my vaccine passport (lol)
I believe I need to get some test prior to boarding (where is the fastest and best place)?
Do I need to pay again when I come back and have the test again?

Anything else I need?

Buddy just came back from Vegas.... well he was there last week for the Monday Nighter...

Quick Notes:
Need a Test on way down; Since it's for travel you will have to pay, not sure what it is but i think about $100.... if you want you can try and go through the free process adn tell them you have symptoms, but that's up to you....
If fully vaccinated, don't need to quarantine.... not sure if Americans recognize astra or astra mixed with anything; he was modenra so all was good;
When he got to vegas, he organzied a test to be done in the room, $200ish??; i beleive the Wynn has a place in the lobby for tests....
When they get back they had the arrive canada app with all their stuff uploaded;
they may ask for random tests to be done in airport when you get home, but they never were asked;

Vegas - Busy, Masks in Casino's, MNF Game was awesome, they sat in they Wynn Night Club Section....

Was planning to go in november/december but will be delaying to next year....

Safe Travels!

Take a Rapid Antigen Test at a pop up clinic at YVR by the Fairmont at the US Departure area.
$120 and result within a half hour.
Show the Ticket Agent at check-in and you're on your way.

Then get a PCR Test in Vegas.
They can come to your room for a Rapid PCR Test to get it done within the 72 hour period you need.
Bit more pricey, like $180-$200US.
You can try Walgreens and CVS for free but they simply won't guarantee within 72 hours.
Your call.
Again, show results to Ticket Agent at McCarran and you're done.

The passport thingy wasn't in effect when I went SoCal in late August so not sure of exact process now, but you still need to upload your vaccine info into the ArriveCan App I believe.
Which you can't do until you're within your 72 hours in Vegas...
But definitely download the App, etc. here before you go.

Heading there in October.
My partner just got back and said the town is fairly good about everything except some crowding here and there which made him a 'little' uncomfortable perhaps.

1. You will need a antigent test before you fly to the states. I believe it is within 3 days of the flight departure time.

2. You need a pcr test to come back. That has to be done within 72 hours of the scheduled return flight home.

The above assumes you are double vaxxed. If not then its a different procedure when you get back.

In vegas the cheapest place to get the pcr test is worksites lab in las vegas. The pcr test is 90 bucks there compared to around 150 elsewhere in vegas.

Keep in mind the difference between a antigen test and a pcr test.

The pcr test required by canada is more expensive and that is the one you need to get in vegas when you fly back.

The antigen test to fly to the usa is offered at yvr airport. The antigen test is rapid test and the usa accepts it. Flying back canada does not.

Recommendation would be to get the pcr test right away when you land in vegas as results can take a day to get back.

You will need to upload a bunch of info to the arrive canada app as well.

I would double check on the canada and us customs website as this was the rules in the summer and may have changed just to make sure.

Yeah apparently. So isolated in his room still but at least the rest of us can not worry about the worst now.
A friend of mine tested positive 3 days after testing negative. A false negative apparently. Monitor symptoms and hope he feels better.

after further research, you don't need any vaccines to travel by air to USA just a negative prc test or antigens test. had me worried as i have double astrazenica.

thanks a lot @Gurps for the cheaper option for prc testing in Vegas. I am there for four nights so getting the test as quick as possible is a good suggestion

@Gurps is the antigen test super quick and can I get it on the morning of or do you suggest to get prior?

I think you have to download a Govt of Canada app and upload your return negative test into it in order to be allowed back into the country. I also read something on their website about them having the ability to randomly demand a new sample upon your return, and forcing you to quarantine for x number of day (I think 3 or 7, I forget which) if they don't like what they see.

My buddy went to Portland for three days and found the process nice and easy. On the other hand, we demanded that he get tested again given his decision to go to Portland.

Another buddy and I cancelled our trip to Detroit (and Ann Arbor) for a boys' sports weekend because the hassle just didn't seem worth it.

And yes, I have at least two buddies. Unlike Regs.

Yes, I think you're right in that a CBSA officer could still demand a fresh test if they feel like being a dick.

I'd have endured the hassle to get a chance to go to the Big House...

I'm flying to Europe for the first time post COVID on Sunday, and the administration requirements of this trip are almost overwhelming. Trying to navigate when / where I need to be tested is something fierce.

6 countries in 10 days, all within EU, but most are crossing border by flight.

Be prepared. The cash grab for testing is ridiculous, especially in and out of Heathrow. Carry a few extra euros in case.

Not travelling through UK at all, but definitely noted.

The requirements to fly into Greece have changed in the last week. Was that I'd need PCR plus double vax, now only double vax. It's a moving target, and I have 6 different targets!

Don't get me wrong, I'm oddly stoked to be into some business travel again.

I would have too, except that things were tracking badly enough that I was concerned the US might have shut down the border to leisure travel. The UW Michigan tickets were $250 a pop for the bleeders - assuming you could get them. And that was face. No chance of getting refunds from the ticket re-sellers because the border closed. All told that was gonna be a couple grand each for the weekend - that kind of risk combined with the COVID situation (and the fact my pal is a retired judge in his 70's and probably a bit skittish about COVID generally) made us bail...

If you're travelling alone and carrying lots of different currencies, and it's that quick, bear in mind that you scream drug trafficker. Happened to me in Bergen, Norway - the gorgeous guard at the airport was eyeing me up and down at baggage claim. No chance she was checking me out - sure enough, secondary as soon as I tried to leave.

By the end we were laughing and she was apologizing, but she also didn't find the five types of currency I (legitimately) had in my personal bag. Point is, they hone in on solo travellers hopping around the continent - I went Canada to Germany to Belgium to England to Norway in the space of four days, and that's what did it...

I don’t normally carry a lot of paper, mostly get by on plastic. There may be a bike I’m lugging around for part of it and that normally gets attention.
