Blueridge 0 CAS 2
Nordic 5 Rams 0
Malones 0 Lynn Valley 1 - LV win on default because Malones fielded a suspended player!

Johnno, what was the real score? Tut Tut, naughty, naughty. Do you really have points to waste? Was the player so awesome, that you had to play him
 :p
Well done NSCL for jumping on it right away:cool:

The Orange Army won a close one with a much improved Rangers side. It was a good team effort from our boys and a good win, Great shot by RJ in the second half to give us 3 points. A close game with Rangers having some good chances late in the game, but our work rate was there to match and it felt good to take 6 points of Rangers this year.:)

Me, I hit the post again.

Week 13

I'm back, still hung over from Xmas party on Sat night.

Hedkandi

Johnno was away this w/e. He informed Glen Audet that he was suspended, before he went away. For some reason Glenn thought he would play, and get yellow carded again. Which is how the league found out.

NSCL must be consistent in their decisions. This has already happened this season, and in the tourney last spring, with the same discipline handed out.

The score in the game was 2-1 Malones.

Well done defeating Rangers twice, important 6 points.

Pipes
I only seen the last 20 of the Norvan-Peg game, but I heard it was a decent game,, any report?

lynn valley 1-0 blueridge- I believe it was a default for using an illegal player. Was that the case cside 17.

seymour ppd. meralomas- no referee. That is a total piss off when your ready to play and a ref does not show. Total shite not acceptable. black ball him from our league. What's the whole story????

rangers 0-1 freybe's- rangers look to be "b" division bound. I predicted that they would have folded by now. Good to see that they have stuck it out.

pegasus 4-0 coveside-Peg weren't 4 goals better but managed to finish our chances. Keeper was solid for peg.

rams 2-1 lupo-rams

nordic 1-4 norvan- 5 games left and still undefeated.

malone's 9-2 c.a.s. welcome to "a" division. my calculations have you guaranteed a spot for next season.

Suds if you follow t.t.p. over 30's thread how about updating the n.s.c.l. league website.

interested in finding out how the teams qualify for the provincial playdowns from our league ????

Any game reports????

Week 14 update

Pipes, or any other league player.

If you send me your email, I will add you to the email list that I send out every mon/tues with updated standings.

Blueridge did play a suspended player. So L.V. get their 2nd win in a row by default.

Seymour/Meralomas Ref

Was to be Paul Ward, he got called to work with West Van District on Sat night, ended up clearing storm drains all night. Called off Sunday morning, but it was to late to find a replacement ref.

Provincials

We are guarranteed 3 spots over 30's, and 1 for over 35"s. We play off with FVSL for a second 35"s spot.
It will be decided at League meeting how these spots are awarded. If there are addittional spots available, we have told BCSA that we will take them.

Score Correction:

Rob Rogers 4-Coveside-0.

Well done Rob,he only had his eyes closed on 2 of them.

thanks

Cvside17,

Thanks for the low down on the Provincials. For the Over 35's, can the teams join forces or bring older players into the squad. I ask this cos' our team being full of whipper snappers has a tough time as it is to prove that we are over 30 let alone over 35;):D

Pipes,

Thanks for the support about our game:( What can you do, when you live in a shoe:confused: We ended up having a kick about and beat them 2-1 if that means anything?

Looks like Coveside turned up late again on Griffin. Cside17, maybe next time you play there, you should get the 11am kick Off:p What do you think? :D

Who does Lynn Valley play next? Any bets they can make it 3 for 3? Way to go, to the League for being on top of it all. And it certainly closes up the race for second spot in Div 2.

Good Tidings to all

Rams/Coveside match Report

It's rather long but here goes!

A bleak day turned bright for Coveside Sunday, as they turned around their biggest comeback in team history to nip nemesis Rams 3-2 after being down 2-0 with just 20 minutes to go. Pure effort from Sean Bartlett, a fabulous finish from Randy Johal and managerial brilliance from Bernie Ward provided the fulcrum that could lift Coveside to the top flight division next season.
Traditionally after Christmas Coveside have gone deep into the tank, and it looked like that's where they were headed Sunday. The day could not have started off more grey. A strong wind howled in Coveside's face on the mucky Heywood South wet sand pitch and dark grey skies with drizzling rain coated the squad. The Rams were only 3 points behind Coveside and a win would have drawn them level for second spot, so much was at stake.
The standard Coveside warmup (taking shots at Russ before toe punting the ball as hard as you can at goal) brought predictable results as CUFC were dreadful right off the mark. Playing into the teeth of the wind, the ball seemed stuck inside the Coveside half. The lads were giving the ball away like Bernie with his empties at the Liquor Store, and were hemmed deep in their end. A mixup in the middle saw the Rams take a 1-0 lead as their best player, Mike Corbett, waltzed around the static keeper and tucked the ball into the empty net.
After the usual period of reticence following a goal Coveside were lucky not to be down 2-0. It was time, then, that CUFC fought back. Craig Larson beat the Rams keeper, and looked to have an open net to draw the score even, only to have it cleared off the line by a fluky defender Karim Ismail worked his way into scoring postion and had two screamers just curl wide of the post.
But then the lads went back to sleep as Coveside started to give up easy fouls and give the ball away again resulting in a multitude of Rams chances. Going into the half, the team was lucky not to be down 3-0. Bernie told us it was the worst half the team had ever played and our whole season was down
to the next half. The lads obviously listened to him, because within five minutes it was 2-0 as another giveaway gave Corbett his second break in clean, and he knocked it into the far corner.
CUFC seemed resigned to the loss and stayed in their prolonged slumber. That is until Ward saw fit to pull another trick out of his managerial hat. He pushed a man up from the back and went with just three fullbacks. Pressure started to come and Coveside finally played with some energy. A great ball from Randy Ash up the middle to Paul Kellor saw Bartlett make an inspired run, Kellor slotted the ball through perfectly, and Bartlett muscled off a
defender before poking it past the goalie, 2-1 with about 20 minutes to go. The life flowed into CUFC like a pint of Caffrey's into the manager. Mark Docherty was making strong runs, Karim was breaking away from defenders and getting off dangerous crosses. The back line was marking tenaciously, Harp Dhaliwal, Ed Duynstee, Bryn Botham, Mike Norris, Ash and Russ Hennessey all had key tackles, but more importantly they got the ball up into the attack. Some fine work from Karim down the wings won a series of corners, until one finally paid off. The long ball in was dropped by the Rams keeper and Bartlett was on the spot to knock in the loose ball, 2-2 Things were scrambly now with about 10 minutes to go, we returned to a four man back line but had the momentum to push forward for a win. The Rams didn't roll over though, and had some dangerous chances to take back the
lead themselves. One found space 10 yards out, alone with the ball, but a tremendous effort from Paul Kellor saw him come back and make a saving tackle. Harp also made a couple of key tackles and some key clearances with his head. Andy Dudley snuffed out a couple of good chances in midfield, and then switched the ball out left to Randy Johal in what would be the decisive moment.
Randy J. deftly stepped by two Rams defenders, and unleashed a long, tricky shot from the outstep of his right foot that snaked its way past the goalie and just under the bar. Unbelievably, it was 3-2 Coveside on what could be the goal of the season.
The final five minutes were played with urgency, but even then Coveside had better chances to make it 4-2 than the Rams did of tying it.
At the end, just like Alex Ferguson had done 5,000 miles away with
Manchester United, scoriing three times in the last 20 minutes to knock Aston
Villa out of the Cup, Bernie Ward had engineered a great comeback victory.
"Now someone give me (another) beer," he said.

Down but not Out

Cside17, Pipes et al,

That was a come back, it was 2-0 to the Rams and looking like you were going to keep up with shooting practice:eek: You finally found the net and maybe secured promotion:cool: Well Done.

Pipes thanks for the support but the snipers of Freybe; the great big fcuking gulley on the gravel field :mad:and other injuries plagued our HUGE:rolleyes: 13 man squad, the Sausage makers did their work:eek:

Well we looked at best in the second being only a goal down at half. Despite our Keeps letting in those "you want back" and the fact we actually strung more than 2 passes together, we came close in a few occasions and pressured them but we were down to 12 early in the first and then down to 11 and then with 10 men due to another injury. Outstanding performances from us included Foxfan, Dave R and smiling Ken:D. Hats off to Freybe, a good squad for 90 minutes. Dissapointed that we didn't even notch a goal against Freybe this year but I look forward in seeing them next year.

I think rust and cob-webs had set in over the break. Back to the task in hand, we face Pegasus on our next Mermaid voyage, hopefully with a full crew.

2nd Half begins.... :)

Howdy lads... belated Happy New Year...
Well we were watching the first half of the Rams-Coveside game as C'side stunk out the place and then learned that Coveside pulled off a Malones and fought back to win... Well done lads! We had to do the same Vs those pesky Rams
We are looking forward to the Malones-C'side re-match to perhaps clinch :D
C'side will most undoubtedly be a pumped and more focused bunch this weekend, with a bit more umphhh and determination. I look forward to playing (sub) and it could be a very good fun game.
No Predictions this week as most of my insights into the future is "shite"and I don't want to be attacked by Pipes... By the way what was the red card for Pipes? Best wishes to all your teams this weekend. - Johnno -
PS. Will the Refs show up on time this week?

Ref's on time?

Johnno

The ref's were on time, it's was the players that were early, or the other way around. But it will be rectified for this weekend.

Johnno,

congratulations on your division win. Based on your player personal I am surprised that you won as many games as you did. I may have rated some teams that never panned out but I never rated your squad. Either your group had season long horseshoe's up your arses or you were the best of a division that was piss poor. It was nice to see two teams promoted to 1st division from last year do well. Hopefully you can follow suit.

Coveside/Malones Match Report

For everyone's enjoyment!

The moment of inspiration came hours before kickoff for Coveside.
It was 3:16 a.m. on Sunday morning, and CUFC manager Bernie Ward was jolted
awake by a sharp pain in his side. After a quick trip to the bathroom to
alleviate his pain, he returned to his spot on the couch, and voila, an
apparition had decended from the football gods to provide the answer to
Coveside's continuing woes.
There, laid out before him on the living room rug, was a vision. Ten empty
Molson Canadian cans and piece of pizza crust spread out on the floor formed
four lines, the hard, half-chewed crust was the goalie, three empties formed
the back line, there were five crushed cans in the middle, and two more at
the top.
Bernie rubbed his eyes, first making sure it wasn't an old Christmas
ornament he hadn't yet put away, but there was no mistaking it, this was the
lineup, the 3-5-2, that would change Coveside's season.
"This will work," Bernie croaked excitedly, "If we play Sunny, Al and Randy
at the back, then make the Jason and Randy J. can drop back a bit more, yes,
yes, this is it!"
Then a loud voice beckoned prophetically from above: "Bernie, shut the f- up
and come to bed, and bring that log up with you."
And so when Bernie arose just five hours later, he quickly set to work,
scribbling out the starting lineup on the box of Lucky Charms at the
breakfast table.
In practice, it worked as well as in theory, as Coveside gained a point from
division leaders Malones with a 2-2 draw Sunday at Griffin Park. Despite
blowing a 2-0 lead, the draw was probably the fairest result as the two
teams played a hard, fair and entertaining tilt.
Bernie's new formation got the lads off to a great start. The passing was as
crisp as the bacon on Brad's Egg McMuffin, the shots as powerful as the
tequila on Amar's Mexican vacation, the tackles as brutal as Dave Wood's new
die job. Finally Coveside came ready to play.
Playing with Mike Norris, Al Roberts and Randy Ash at the back, things were
solid from the ground up. Five midfielders, with Randy Johal and Jason
Fisher out wide and coming back to help, provided width and strong tackling
while Craig Larson and Sean Bartlett provided speed and strength up front.
The first real chance went to Malones as noted thug Cass Bennett steamed in
on a partial breakaway down the right side.
Bennett was caught from behind by Fisher, and was scared silly at the sight
of the fast-approaching goalie, prompting a weak chip over the bar as he
desperately wanted to get rid of the ball.
Things turned quickly in Coveside's favour. Fisher came back deep to
retrieve a loose ball, and made a stunning run all the way up the right
wing. He stepped around, through and over Malonians left in his wake, and
knocked a great ball through to Paul Kellor. The lanky midfielder then
slotted a perfect pass to Sean Barlett (for the second week in a row), which
was cooly finished by Bartlett ramming past the fallen keeper.
Shortly after that the team suffered yet another injury blow with Kellor
twisting his knee on the artificial turf and leaving the game. Kellor joined
other injured CUFCers Dave Woods, Rob Paul and Bernie on the sidelines.
Malones battled back well, but some belief in the manager's system, with
Andy Dudley and Mark Docherty coming back to make some key tackles and snuff
out solid scoring chances, sent CUFC into the half with a lead for the first
time since November 25th vs. Carribbean All Stars.
Bernie made a few tactical changes, bringing on Russ Hennessey, Harp
Dhaliwal and Brad Chapman to join the fray.
Craig Larson reminded us not to make the mistake the Rams did the week
before by getting satisfied. Larson lived up to his word about 10 minutes
into the second half, taking a feed from Fisher and blasting a rocket into
the net to give the boys a 2-0 lead.
Fitness kicked in, or rather lack of it, and as Malones started to jump up
into the attack more, Coveside started to tire. A phantom foul, where a
Malones forward seemed to wrong-foot himself and fall down on the edge of
the box, caused a dangerous free kick.
Once more, the CUFC keeper was woefully out of position on the kick and it
sailed into the top corner to get Malones back into it.
With about 15 mintues to go, a shot from the top of the box took a
deflection and snaked into the far side of the goal, 2-2.
Rather than just pack it in, Coveside fought harder for the win, and were
unlucky not to pot a third as Fisher and Larson pressed up front as the
final 10 were a frantic to and from between both teams. Russ Hennessey and
Al Roberts both made game-saving plays in their own box in the closing
minutes, and the final result of 2-2 moved CUFC a step closer to promotion.
All were happy after the game, and Bernie headed back to his couch to start
working on the next apparition.

Thanks

Thanks guys for the accolades :)
coming from you lads it means alot.
Our success can be attributed to good fortune and fitness has alot to do with it. We seem to dominate alot of teams in the 2nd half of all our games. I must also attribute a good deal of our success to a alot of determination and grit from key players on our team.. when the going gets tough the same lads game in and game out always seem to arise to the call and rally our cause.
As for the horseshoes...well I for one don't have any...."KLANK!..oops sorry.
I only wish I could have visions of inspiration like Bernie has from time to time. But I don't feel like drinkin 10 beers and stuffing down a medium pepperoni pizza to enable it :D However I would be willing to give it a go perhaps...prior to our upcoming games with Meralomas and Norvan. We look forward to those challenges. Great game on the weekend Cside...your lads played a fcking great game - I hope Paul's knee injury was not serious and is just a temporary setback for him. Good luck to you all next weekend.
Later...
Johnno!
