Hammers gamble on casino partnership (3 August 2004)
English League Division One club West Ham United has unveiled its plans for a £70million integrated entertainments and leisure complex at their Boleyn Ground in East London.
The venture, which also features a casino, will be operated in partnership with Las Vegas Sands Incorporated, the proprietors of ‘The Venetian’ casino in the city of the same name in the Nevada dessert.
The project is designed to compliment the existing hotel, conference and banqueting suites. It will create 2,000 jobs and provide new community facilities.
Paul Aldridge, West Ham United's managing director, said, “The proposed development will secure significant revenues for the benefit of the football team and ensure it is in a strong position for the future. In addition, it will be of major benefit to the locality in terms of employment and economic regeneration.”
