Ze return of Ze legendary defenzeman

The Canucks have brought in 34-year old defenseman Zarley Zalapski for a tryout this preseason.

Why this wasn't part of the marketing campaign for seasons tickets is beyond me.

ZZ no longer TOP defenceman

Give him a chance because he can be great on the PowerPlay, but he has been a flop the last couple of years with his big pay slowing him down on the blue-line.

Was great in his day, but what will he bring to the young and fast group of D-men that we have right now.

Zalapski = Wrong Direction

This is like signing Murray Baron's twin! Not the right direction for the long term if they don't have the cash to buy some top guys. Just wait, we'll find out they threw huge dough at this guy but couldn't afford the cash to keep the ones that got away.

Zalapski has been in the NHL with Philly for 12 games during the 1999-00 season so this has to be Sensei's idea of a joke!

This was a guy who did play for teams for extended periods earlier in his career with Pittsburgh (4 seasons), Hartford Whalers (4), Calgary Flames (5) and then one with Montreal where he played 28 games in 1997-98 only to land in Zurich for 11 games the next season, then the next year Long Beach and Utah of the IHL in 1999-00 before heading to Philly for his 12 games there.

Most recently he has been in the IHL with Houston Aeros (9) games in 2000-01 before heading for 20 games with the Munich Barons in that same year.

If this isn't a joke, then it must be because he comes cheap.

This thread seemed appropriate...

In what can only be taken as the sad state of the Canucks and their players inability to compete with richer, American players: Yesterday, Artem Chubarov came into my work, Sportchek at Richmond Centre, he walks up to the till, shirt in hand. He passes his credit card to the cashier who rings it through. This is what the cashier said to him, "I'm sorry sir, your card was declined", Chubarov mumbles something barely audible under his breath and walks out, tail between his legs. How expensive was the shirt you ask? A $15 Point Zero special. Maybe he spends too much time on Willhill.
