Fox Sports World Canada Wants to Add More Sports
GATINEAU - Fox Sports World Canada has applied to the CRTC to add additional sports categories to its conditions of license.
The digital category two specialty channel is currently limited to cricket, rugby and soccer from around the world. That's not enough, says the channel's owners, Fox and Global Television.
It wants its conditions to read: "No more than 25% of all programming broadcast during the broadcast year shall be dedicated to sports other than cricket, rugby and soccer."
However, well aware of the fact the Commission wouldn't approve of adding mainstream North American sports to its potential content, the application makes clear in the proposed new conditions: "The licensee may not dedicate any coverage to the following men's sports: ice hockey, basketball, baseball and North American-style football," it says. "Excepting cricket, rugby and soccer, no more than 5% of the broadcast year shall be dedicated to live coverage of any one particular sport.
"The licensee notes the seasonal nature of the permitted sports makes it difficult to offer attractive year-round service to its viewers. The licensee believes that the proposed changes will not transform their service into one directly competitive with existing analog specialty and pay services or Category 1 services."
Such an addition would allow Fox Sports World to televise many other global sports such as women's sports, auto and horse racing or other equestrian events, among others.
Please God, no! Leave it the way it is!!!!!!!!!! Make them come to their senses!
