I think that this is the year that we will see either England or The Netherlands do it.

England (as much as it pains me to say it) look the part, finally with a manager that seems to get the most and more out of his squad.

The Dutch are always dangerous yet always find a way to mess the bed. With Van Bommell back in the fold their midfield looks really strong in defense as well as going forward... They are probably the most talented team, when fit, in the world... I'd hate to have to defend against this:
----------Van Persie/Huntelaar-------------
Van Der Vaart------Sneijder----------Robben
----------De Jong--------Van Bommell------

One of these years they are going to do it, so I might as well keep on predicting they will...

Spain will win this. England (as usual) will implode due to another internal squabble over who else's wife John Terry is doing. Italy will go into another World Cup with too many old guys and not enough new blood and will be out in Round 2, blown out by one of the African teams with way too much pace for the old farts to handle.

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands -- Ruud van Nistelrooy was left off the Netherlands' preliminary World Cup roster.

Coach Bert van Marwijk said Tuesday the Hamburg forward was now fit but that a long-term absence had ended his chances.

Van Nistelrooy last played for the Oranje at the 2008 European Championship. Though he wanted to play in South Africa, Van Marwijk said he wasn't at his "normal level" because of a knee injury sustained while playing for Real Madrid.

"I have told him that we have intensely followed him and we have admiration for his desire and efforts to go to the World Cup," Van Marwijk said. "As far as I know, Ruud is fit. But there is insufficient time for him to get to his normal levels after his lengthy knee injury."

There were no major surprises in the 30-man roster, which included Liverpool's Ryan Babel and Dirk Kuyt, along with John Heitinga, Nigel de Jong and Robin van Persie.

Inter Milan's Wesley Sneijder was picked along with Bayern Munich's Mark van Bommel and Arjen Robben. Their teams are in the Champions League final on May 22.

AC Milan veteran Clarence Seedorf said he was expecting a surprise phone call from Van Marwijk but he didn't get one and was left out. AC Milan teammate Klaas Jan Huntelaar was included. From: HERE

Forwards: Grafite (Wolfsburg, Germany), Luis Fabiano (Sevilla, Spain), Nilmar (Villarreal, Spain), Robinho (Santos)
Associated Press

SAO PAULO -- Ronaldinho, Adriano and Neymar were left off Brazil's 23-player World Cup roster on Tuesday.

Coach Dunga was to announce seven others later Tuesday, completing the team's preliminary 30-man list, which was due to FIFA. The 23-man list doesn't have to be finalized until June 1.

Kaka, Robinho, Maicon and Julio Cesar made the cut, but three-time FIFA player of the year Ronaldo and veteran left back Roberto Carlos were not selected.

Dunga is sticking to most of the players who helped Brazil win last year's Confederations Cup and finish first in South American World Cup qualifying.

"These players are winners," Dunga said. "There is no doubt that they are prepared to help Brazil reach its goal. They are ready to give their best for the country."

One of the biggest surprises was the absence of Adriano, who had been constantly called up by Dunga in recent matches. But there had been doubts because of recent off-the-field problems that caused him to miss several training sessions with Flamengo.

"We gave Adriano numerous chances," Dunga said. "But it came to a time when we had to make a decision."

Wolfsburg's Grafite was called up to take Adriano's place.

Ronaldo and Roberto Carlos were expected to be left out, but there was still some hope for Ronaldinho. Atwo-time FIFA player of the year, Ronaldinho hadn't been called up for the national team since April 2009, but had been playing well this season with AC Milan.

Brazilian fans and local media had also been pushing for Dunga to summon Santos young sensations Neymar and Paulo Henrique Ganso, who have been among the top players in Brazil this year.

The 18-year-old forward Neymar has dazzled fans with his speed and ball skills, being called by many as the new Robinho. The 20-year-old Ganso, or Goose in Portuguese, attracted attention for his maturity and ability as a playmaker. Along with Robinho, they led Santos to more than 100 goals in some 30 matches this year.

"Some players are extremely talented, but we have to test them before taking them to a World Cup," Dunga said. "Maybe they are ready to play in a World Cup now, but maybe they are not."

Kaka is likely to be Brazil's leader in South Africa, commanding a midfield which also could have World Cup veteran Gilberto Silva as a starter, and maybe even Barcelona's Daniel Alves. The defense will be anchored by Juan and Lucio, and the attack will be set up with Luis Fabiano and Robinho.

Just three of the 20 are based in Brazil: Gilberto, Kleberson and Robinho.

This World Cup is being played in the middle of the South African winter - mild by Canadaian and most Euro standards - but still I think a highly relevant factor.

It's why I'm liking England's chances more and more. Especially if it rains.
--------------------------------------
Winter in South Africa (May to July) is characterised in the higher-lying areas of the interior plateau by dry, sunny, crisp days and cold nights. So it's a good idea to bring warm clothes.

The hot, humid KwaZulu-Natal coast, as well as the Lowveld (lower-lying areas) of Mpumalanga and Limpopo provinces, offer fantastic winter weather with sunny, warmish days and virtually no wind or rain.

The Western Cape gets most of its rain in winter, with quite a few days of cloudy, rainy weather. However, these are always interspersed with wonderful days to rival the best of a British summer.

The high mountains of the Cape and the Drakensberg in KwaZulu-Natal usually get snow in winter.

I didn't type that right, as I read it I see how it looks now...

Not on the team are Hitzlsperger, Frings, and Kuranyi... (all were left off for various reasons in favor of younger guys having great seasons)

Adler and Rolfes would have been on the team, but are hurt.
