Only one of you mentioned slapshot

I can't beleive that slapshot was mentioned only once...good on you drap! Slapshot has to be one of the all time best with an all star cast of heroes like the Hansens, Ogie Oglethorp and of coarse our favorite Paul Newman...BTW Color of Money, good choice, sure it's a sport.

Sports or prison movie?

The Longest Yard

This was when Burt Reynolds was good - before the sleazy porn character years :D

Jimmy Grimble

I would even nominate "Jimmy Grimble", as it took me back to the days growing up in the inner-city ghettos of Victoria; where there is no grass to play on, a youth game was not complete without a total brawl, and people were fighting to get noticed by a pro-team in order to get out of these awful slums... um ok, maybe it wasn't quite like that.

Still, it's a funny movie

Great 80's movie

Speaking of the ever Dreamy Rob Lowe. He paired up in a great flick with the other Dreamy guy Patrick Swayze in:

YOUNGBLOOD
A skilled young hockey prospect hoping to attract the attention of professional scouts is pressured to show that he can fight if challenged during his stay in a Canadian minor hockey town. His on-ice activities are complicated by his relationship with the coach's daughter.

Even a little appearance of Keanu Reeves in it.

No. 1 alltime has to be Air Bud: Golden Retriever. Excellent storyline backed with incredible acting and cinematography. At least that's what my dog says(granted, he does tend to embellish)

Jimmy Grimble ...

Seeing as I watched it last night ... and logged on to post about it, only to find a post already existed .... I'll second the vote for the quality footie flick "There's Only One Jimmy Grimble"

Absolutely nothing wrong with it, but no I am not.

I'm a married man!

I was just poking fun at Dirty daddy who said that he thought Rob Lowe was dreamy.

Gregory's girl was a great flick but my favorite sports movie has to be "The Raging Bull." I like most flicks with DeNiro but he was great in this movie. He had to put on 40 lbs for the role too.

For fun, I have to go with Happy Gilmour and Kingpin.

A new life

Captain,
I forgot about this thread, nice to get it going again.

Has anyone else spent a few Sunday afternoons watching an old TBS regular, Wildcats with Goldie Hawn as coach McGrath.

One show I never saw because I heard it was brutal, and partly because I am not a big fan of Shaq was Blue Chips.

Was it as bad as everyone said it was?

It was so bad that it was actually funny. The basketball was so boring and predictable but it did have many cameos by other players.

Without a doubt my favorite is Hoosiers!:D

One of the best.........

I have to say, although it wasn't a sports movie, one of the best sports scenes in a movie I have ever seen was by Jim Carrey in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.

Laughed for hours at that one................and still do.

The funniest (unitentionally) was the made for TV The Hank Gathers Story. They actually filmed the "actors" playing basketball on 9 foot rims. It takes a lot of thespian talent to show a menacing face after throwing down on a little rim. It also takes me back to good memories of McClosky.

Nosing out Jimmy Chipwood and the boys for best ever sports movie is Major League.

Story...good

on field action...good

direction...good

and it made me feel...good.

I'm a little surprised no one has mentioned "Remember the Titans." A true story with a rather large Disney-esque twist. Good flick with some 'sniff' touching moments.'sniff' 'sniff'

I think I'll go get myself a tissue now...

Mad about Mambo

If you liked Billy Elliot or Jimmy Grimmble you'll love Mad about Mambo. Not sure of spelling but good UK Footy-Dance flick.

However my two all time favourites have to be Snatch and Fight Club. Brad Pitt plays a great fighter, no I'm not bent. Zetta-Jones and Penelope Cruz are more my style.

You're really stretching it with Snatch and Fight Club. I love them both, but sports movies? Come on. Aren't there any WWF movies you could've chosen from?
