Is it just me or has the league gone hog wild on handing out multiple game suspensions lately. Have a look at the suspension list on the excellent site. Christ it looks as though Azzi may be fattening up the league bank account for a Gilesque manoeuvre. Remember the good old days when you could call a ref a cnut and get 1 game. Now if you get into more than 1 tackle a game, you're looking at at least 2. Are there brawls going on that I don't know about at these matches? Whatever the case may be, I think the politburo at the VMSL needs to take a valium or some viagra and relax on Thursday nights!!

So true. Yellows are being handed out like candy at a pedophile convention too. Clayton Dobbin pushed a guy when we played Columbus after he just lumped one of our players for trying to waste a bit of time in the corner and he got a straight red from Rene. He got 2 fcuking games for a simple push and telling the lad to fcuk off after a red that should have at most been a yellow.

How is Hawaii this time of year anyway, Azzi?

I think that the Refs have put a lot of pressure on the leagues to hand out tougher suspensions becuase they feel they are not getting the respect of the players and players respecting each other.

I agree with these tougher suspensions, players are taking to many liberties on the pitch, and someone is going to get hurt, as well the quality of the game just goes for shite.

As for the Refs, they may just get feed up at one point and not bother refing mens soccer anymore. When I was coaching women a few years back, I talked to a ref, who used to do Premier mens games every weekend, but he got fed up with the abuse he would talk from players and fans, I have to say he was not a great ref, but he was probably better than some we get these days. If the good local refs stop doing are games, then we really will have stuff to complain about come games on weekends.

The ref even said to me, I make the same money doing womens games, without the hassle, none of the ladies are going to call him a cnut, he justs refs one.

It's probably why Walks sticks to doing Trinities women's matches all the time. The big poof can't handle a little "feedback." :D

The thing I don't understand is how someone can be a so called FIFA ref and not be able to take some abuse from either fans or players. Granted there is probably a higher level of respect at higher levels of play, but for fcuk's sake if you're getting 50 bucks to do a match, suck it up and let it roll off of you. It's getting to the point that you can't even question a referee anymore on anything. and the league disciplinary committee acts as if the referee is flawless. Taking whatever is inhis report as the gospel. The formality of bringing someone in on a Thursday is ridiculous. They ask you for your side of the story and then make you leave the room for 2 minutes while they decide whether or not they're going for 1 round or 2 at the NBI later. If it happens to be 2 rounds, you're bound to wind up with at least 3 games.

Different Level

Mabey that is the problem Bronco, a FIFA ref is doing a game with players who make millions a year thinks, it is my job to be here and make the right calls, not to determin the outcome of the match.

When a ref is doing one of our games, he is making more than any of us, well except the players of Indo and Khalsa who are making $200-$300 a game:rolleyes: , the ref feels it is his job not only to make the calls but to be involved in the outcome of the game.

Who knows, all I really wanted to say was that I love all Refs and that I play goal for Khalsa.

I can't add much intellect to this thread, not with you three wits anyway, but I'm board and not interested in working so I'II say a few words....

HOS, you mentioned you coached women. Was that on the pitch or in the bedroom?

PS: maybe you should see if they will let you transfer to the women's program as a player?? I mean after the soft answer in defence to all referees, maybe you should be playing with a bunch of girls....who knows maybe you'll even make the All Star team!!!

KNVB, regarding that druck mic Dobbin......

I think that there is some sexual tension between Rene & Clay. If Dobbin had only "swallowed" in stead of "spit" the last time he and Rene had had a run in, then maybe Dobbs wouldn't have got a years suspension. Rene's has a "hard-on" for Dobbin for years......and cudo's to him, its not that easy to keep it up that long at his age!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes knees, I have coached in both the bedroom and on the pitch, in both areas the ladies don't seem to do what I want, but I did win a Canadian Championship.

Still love the refs

VMSL Discipline

Referees are there to do a job - which is apply the FIFA Laws. Referees do not see a penny from the fines imposed by the league; nor do we "suggest" suspensions/fines.

A yellow card in the FIFA Laws is a yellow card in an amateur match in Vancouver and a professional match in English Premier.

If you feel a card issued by a referee is too harsh, it is not. If you were on the receiving end of a foul (push/strike), I guarantee that player and his/her teammate would be lobbying the referee for a public hanging. Meanwhile, the player and the team that committed that foul would lobby to the referee that he/she "barely touched him/her". This all sounds too familiar at the local level. Now what should a neutral referee do???

Referees have been getting shunned the last few years, not only in VMSL. The referees in most leagues are instructed to issue red and yellow cards in accordance to the FIFA Laws. A red card for striking an opponent in Vancouver is the same as a red card for striking an opponent in Manchester. All leagues and referees abide by the FIFA Laws. So should the players.

KNVB,

I think using a Dobbin incident is a poor example. A push/shove really should be a straight red. Normally a ref might show a yellow but I think Dobs does have a bit of a history and reputation that factors into what a ref does at the local level.

If there indeed is a "crack down" on lengths of suspensions, I wonder if the league sent out a memo to teams warning of such? Not saying they didn't do exactly that, but it should be done if they didn't.

Reaping and sowing,

~Regs.

Regs that's a valid point, the two do have a history, but the problem I have is Woody and I had the same type of thing this weekend and Branco gave us both a yellow to settle us down. Believe me I'm not questioning Rene, Branco or any other Ref for that matter, I think the standard of reffing in this league has gone no-where but up in the last couple of years. I also applaud them for bringing in guys like Walks and Docerty(sp) who have a good repore with the players. I use to worry about what ref we had now I truly don't care.

No change of heart, I think there are a couple of quality referees in the VMSl, the rest aren't fit to referee chimpanzees. Well except when HOS is playing of course. This thread wasn't really about referees you megalomaniac. It was about the disciplinary committee that is handing out 4 and 5 game suspensions for a red card!!!

Holy shite.

The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines Megalomania/ Megalomaniac as; a disorder of mind marked by feelings of personal omnipotence and grandeur.

Great to have a ref's point of view here, and even better it isn't that cnut WALKS:D

The refs need to have a feel for the game and for the players involved. Rene likes to challenge people and make sure they know it is his game and he is in control. I find if you let him say what he wants to say early then he leaves you alone and you can get away with some stuff later on. BUT like last weekend in the Inter / Fireman game, Rob Toth challenge Rene's authority and thus was inches from getting tossed and had he done anything else that day he would have finished the game on the touch line.

Overall I think the refs do a pretty good job. I think if more guys realized that they wouldn't stand for another player saying the crap to them during a game that we say to the refs we wouldn't have the length and type of suspensions that we are seeing of late.

Cheers,

John

I too thought this thread was supposed to be about unjust suspensions and hefty fines. I still have yet to hear a reasonable argument, especially in the VMSL, where a referee had anything to gain by being biased towards a certain team. Maybe towards Firemen, who have the capability to save your house if it was burning to the ground or something.

The only ray of hope here is that the league is handing down harsh penalties early on, in the hope that it'll keep players from lashing out later on in the year. You know, when multi-game suspensions usually mean you're missing cup games or crucial matches for promotion and relegation. Call it a prevent defense, if you will. Set a standard today to see players meeting it tomorrow.

Clearly players are taking notice of the severity of suspensions...maybe the VMSL "braintrust" has gone out and made an effort to attack this problem (or at least what they perceive to be a problem) early, as opposed to letting it linger and have a larger uproar at the conclusion of this season. If so, it seems to be working, to a certain degree. You don't think Surrey United will be thinking twice about getting into an altercation, after the whipping Dobbin took at the hands of the disciplinary committee?

Just take a wait-and-see approach for the time being. Seriously. The season is all of three games old.
