Fantastic tournament on Saturday out in Port Moodys Heritage Woods. This was the 2nd Annual Tourney that was started by the Canada Border Services people in support of the Michael Cuccione Foundation to help beat childhood cancer. This co-ed tourney was a six-a-side on a small field (Heritage was marked out for 3 fields running sideways), it had 21 teams competing, up from the 12 last year, and included teams like the Port Moody fire and police, Port Moody Dads, and a mixture of various Border Services teams. It was strictly for fun (I only saw one yellow handed out), but the soccer was pretty good. It had everything, BBQ, beer garden, a live rock band, a Seaforth Highlanders pipe band, MC Steve Darling of Global, Mayor Trassolini and Bob Lenaurduzzi speeches, two Special Olympics soccer teams in an exhibition game, a kids game featuring kids who have or have beaten cancer, and, of course, fantastic weather. They raised $5000 last year and were looking to at least double that this year (everything was donated and everyone involved was doing it for free). All in all a fantastic way to spend the day, already looking forward to next year!!!!
