Easy peasy......

Celtic/Rangers - There is NO rivalry like it. It has everything from politics to religion. It also has bastards(Rangers) and nice guys(Celtic)

Captain's Right!!

Sports illustrated did an article about sports rivalry about 5 years ago. The old firm was ranked #1.

Auld Firm

Having been to a couple of Auld Firm matches and watched plenty on TV, there is no rivalry like it.

Last year had the chance of sitting in Ibrox - 6 rows from the field and no less than 200 of Strathclyde Police Dept. finest between me and a bunch of Cside17's, Jinkys and Captains. Not that their bad people (at least those three), but the tension and passion in the crowd is amazing. Words cannot describe the atmosphere .... the whole thing from pre-match, game and post match sends chills up your spine.

As Captain said ... no other rivalry involves so much about religion, politics and your favorite color. And again, it has the Really nice guys (Rangers) and the Super Bastards (Celtic).

I'm hoping that both make the Tennents Scottish Cup Final this year on May 31, 2003 as I will be in attendance. Please do not think I'm cheering for The 'Tic .... just would like to have this opportunity again. Saw Rangers v. Sheep Shaggers three years back .... just not the same as an Auld Firm Cup Final.

Ain't nothing like it .....

Lads,

After all I've seen and heard, I'd have to agree that the Auld Firm ranks second to none. The pure animosity between Catholics and Protestants in Glasgow is like nothing else.

However, about 10 years ago I went to White Hart Lane to see a London Derby between Chelsea and Spurs. Now, being a London derby, there's always massive intensity, fights before / after the games, etc., etc. Couldn't believe it though when I thought it was going to be Hillsbrough all over again. The section below us (which at the time was all terraces) was absolutely jammed. Loads of people were getting pulled over the fence and onto the pitch where they were escorted into a section separating the two sets of supporters. The people that got over the wall actually filled the entire spare section. No wonder England went to all seater stadiums soon after ........

Classic stuff though as all the Chelsea supporters had stalks of celery stuck into their shirts & pants. During the match, they'd all hurl the celery at the Spurs fans. Even the halftime marching band was pelted with the veg ....... Good times, Good times ..... :D

Auld Enemy

Nothing beats the Auld Firm. Nothing.

The energy, passion and volatility is so intense. Such that, if you knew absolutely nothing about these two teams and went to the match, you would be screaming "dirty fenian....." or "fcukin hun, orange bassa" (depending on what end you got tickets to) before the final whistle. Quite frankly, a written description would never do the experience justice.

A close second though is Scotland v England. I went to this match at Euro96. We had the bastards, we really did! Fcukin' Gazza.

Third place honours go to Delta Highlanders v Surrey FC Rangers.

Auld Firm...

Definitely agree - was up in Scotland a few years back in a beautiful but tiny village - shortly before the game finished the bar tender politely told us to finish up swiftly which we did - had only gone a few yards down the road before a bar stool came flying through the window. Further down the road a fight was broken up by one of the blokes aunt & uncle - chaos in a place that probably had one or two branchless family trees ;)
