Re: BC Place Reno

I can't for the life of me understand why this would be delayed.

I am in contracting and jobs are going for lower margins than ever before in my working expeirence. Also the moneys, or a large sum of it, are coming from the selling off of lands surrounding BC Place by PavCo. It makes no sense to me why this would be getting delayed other than Gordo changing his tune and trying to sink his own battleship as the HST has pretty much cursed his leagacy going forward...

He lied to get the sports vote... Never!;)

Re: BC Place Reno

Perhaps the real estate market ain't so good right now?

Plus with the new budget coming out soon, it would be pretty hard to make cuts in education and healthcare but keep this on the books full steam ahead?

The thing is that they can't just cancel it - the roof needs to be replaced anyways (end of life?) so I'm sure there would be liability concerns if left as is?

Re: BC Place Reno

This lying government is terrible for sports... let's see their record so far:

- HST (how will it affect sports teams?):
... lower advertising revenue, as ads now must charge HST
... higher costs associated with purchasing sports equipment for schools etc

- GAMBLING
... increases limit on sports gambling (as well as others) so that now we can have a more corrupt gambling market.

- ROOF RENOVATION CANCELED
... this is why we need to accept PRIVATE MONEY FOR DEVELOPMENT when there is a multi-millionaire willing to give the funds.

Re: BC Place Reno

The real estate market is a dead wash against the current clime in the contracting world.

If margins were 20-25 points and are now 10-15 that is reflective of a 5-15% drop in real estate prices over the last 1-2.5 years... It is a wash.

Also, real estate of this proportion does not have the same value drops/gains vs the housing or residental markets... The land value will have climbed or dropped minimally as there is very little to no NEW land with development potential between the Ocean to the left, False Creek, and the water to the north of DT Vancouver.

That is why the stall is happening on the Caps Waterfront stadium. Kerfoot pulled off a miracle and bought land that nobody knew was available and now the Port Authority, which has the easements and not the land titles, are holding it hostage for their own and others in the shadows gains...

Re: BC Place Reno

Who cares, what the Duzzi had to say, he and kerfoot are getting sabotaged at every turn due to the gimme, gimme for nothing agenda of goverments afraid that they will not get the credit taxes and political benefit from being able to say we did that. Get out of the way you gits and lets make Vancouver a real international city threw private investment. problem is it will never happen with this cowtailing to small but vocal special intrest groups!

Re: BC Place Reno

Honestly...makes me wonder why we bother having a provincial government.

I always thought BC had a lot to offer, yet the only way this government makes money is through raising taxes, implementing tolls, taking their share of lottery and casino profits, and cutting spending. Seriously...where is the initiative? the imagination? Any idiot could do what they are doing to run this province and then they top it all off by giving themselves raises!

I am proud to say that I did not vote in the last election!

Why not go "on tour"?

I don't understand this... Why can't the Lions and Caps play elsewhere...

There is no rapid transit to PNE (Skytrain, RAV, Etc)
There is nothing there now save a field
The drainage at that park is terrible at best already...

Re: BC Place Reno

The Sun article said part of the increased budget cost was due to building of the temporary stadium.

The thing is, I bet quite a few people will be pumped to see a game or 2 at what was once Empire stadium
