The game played out somewhat predictably. Canada plugging the middle up, and making Mexico beat them from the outside. A few scary moments 1st half, but scoreless. I commented to @LION our keeper was outstanding except on distribution. Very poor, a couple of worm burners right down the middle that were picked off but no damage.

2nd half, that reared it's ugly head on the 1st goal, Mexico made no mistake making Canada pay. From then on, it was a deflated Canadian team, conceded another, and conceded the bulk of play.

We didn't have an attack that caused them much issue, I feel that with our size we should have, but Mexico was incredibly well organized defensively, no space at all.

Consolation (if any), the US lost 2-1 to Honduras so also failed to qualify... that's a HUGE fail on their part all things considered.

Absolutely. The US program has been falling apart now on all sides for a few years.

Equally, how about Honduras? I'd love to know what they budget for their MNT, but FFS, a country that is basically amongst the poorest in the world and one of the highest crime rates, genuine 3rd world poverty. For their Men's teams to be in the hunt in the past 8 years is really something. Obviously for those players, the emotional buy-in is way higher, football literally is everything, and it's a hunger that I don't know many Canadians will or have ever experienced in sport. I could be wrong, but certainly you can't compare our hockey to football in places like Honduras.

Places like El Salvador and Honduras always seem to punch above their weight.
It's amazing.
I almost feel dirty now adopting them as my Olympic Dark Horse, due to that 8-0 thrashing they gave us a few years back in WCQ (I'm sure Dezza will correct me on the score, was it 8-1? 7-0? It was a thrashing...), but in that case, it's our own fault for going into hostile territory so utterly unprepared for the whole gamut of experiences playing down there.

I swear it is the way they are coached though. You cant defend like that for 90 minutes on a good.
If you are then you at least need a striker up front that is effective at being a lone man.
Frustrating to watch.

Agree.

Parking the bus in Mexico seems like water torture. Eventually, they are just going to break you down. For once I'd love to see a Canada squad come out flying, and try to bully their way to a goal.

8-0 now.

We are treating Cayman like Honduras treated us. I sort of like this very un-Canadian, unapologetic approach to beating down the minnows.

Also, since I've self-identified as #SuperStraight, I'll say this here and now: damn John Herdman is a good looking dude. That's all I'm sayin', just sayin'.
