Dude, you seem to have read into my comments that I'm doubting her allegations against Nassar. I'm not remotely doubting anything she or any of the other victims said about him. He's where he belongs.

I don't doubt that she has ongoing trauma from it. I don't doubt that she has other anxieties and issues and challenges. And I agree that we as a society need to do a better job of giving people fighting through such issues a wide berth and/or proper support.

My quarrel with her is precise; I don't believe that her issues are why she pulled out. I believe she couldn't accept anything less than being the best, and concocted a variety of excuses to rationalize why, for the first time, she wasn't the best.

I'm not going to get into it with you about the role of lawyers in a civil society, except to say that your tune would likely change if some whack-job parent from the BMX club put their child up to making false and malicious claims about you. And before you fit me up for the tin-foil cap, almost twenty years of practice in the criminal law field tells me that, while rare, it does happen...

Maybe go back and read your reply to PV, and see if you can figure out how your comments are way offside. Read it in that context. If you say I misread it, fine. I’d rather believe you than not. I’d like to assume under those tassled leather shoes lives a man with a heart and empathy. But fcuk me, have a bloody read and give your head a shake.

I suppose I could have worded my reponse to PV better. I agree with his premise that we need to give people who have been through what she's been through a lot of rope. If you read my comments as a challenge to that thought, I apologize as it wasn't my intent.

The point I was trying to make is that my rope doesn't extend to giving a pass to something I'm confident enough to call a lie. When you're internally inconsistent, you lose me - previously victimized or not.

Obviously wasn’t obvious to me, but I also take him at his word and we move on. BTW- his point about extending rope, agree. Be consistent. But again, whatever.

Rogan was saying that her ADHD meds are illegal in Japan so this may be a reason why she pulled out. She was granted to use these meds for therapeutic use in Rio and walked away with 4 golds.

Has she pulled out of the individual events too now?

She pulled out of more individual events, she may compete in the floor routine.
Its hard to know what's really going on. The very first statement came from the coach, who said it was a medical issue. Later that day u.s. gymnastics said its a mental health issue. The following day she spoke for herself, although her p.r. team probably helped script her statement. To add more confusion, the media may have misunderstand and mis-stated her words, and we may misunderstand part of what was said.
I don't know enough to use an adjective to describe her as a person.
But, i find it easy to criticize media for glorifying professional sports and entertainment figures.

The bmx races are exciting, a good addition to the olympics. Bmx and skateboard jumping and routines are crap. 6 person volleyball is exciting and the participants are athletes, much better than beach volleyball. Golf should not be in the olympics, its no more a sport than darts, and its for rich people. Finally synchronized swimming and synchronized diving are........

BMX Racing has earned it's place there over decades of racing and world championships. The list of accomplished world champions in other realms of cycling that came from BMX originally is very, very long. What you end up seeing are the very best stay in, and often times give up a lot to chase a World Cup title. Google Tory Nyhaug, recently retired Canadian. I believe reached as high as 2nd or 3rd world ranking and then decided to retire due to another concussion. Tory has given up a spleen, has suffered punctured lung(s), too many surgeries. An unbelievable talent. His "next in line", Alex Tougas from Maple Ridge was following a similar trajectory as Tory when he suffered a horrific crash in the Netherlands a couple of years back, in a Semi, where he was looking good to make the final. He spent a week in hospital just trying to remember his name, flew home with a medical escort, and underwent rehab just to get his life back. I couldn't find a link to that, but here's a link to his World Championship win as (I think) a 15 year old- which was his second WC #1.

It was on the strength of the points he earned in the World Cup that we even had an entrant at the Olympics.

It's a brutal sport. Incredibly fun to watch and participate in, very highly skilled, fast and action packed....but I was 100% in favor of my son walking away from it to focus on road racing when he was about 15. He was pretty good, but not quite good enough to stay out of the mayhem at the elite level...and as we all know, 15-18 year old boys are about as aggressive as it gets.

Agree BMX Park should be out, bloody hell, what a desperate attempt to win over young fans! Hardly any countries have representation! What they should have is DH Racing (Cycling). DH is very well represented now worldwide under UCI.

And...don't get me started on fcuking golf, or curling, for that matter. Honestly, just fcuk off with calling those "Sports" worthy of being associated w/ Olympics.

Can we talk about anything with horses while we are at it?

There is no doubt, the Olympics do need a mandate overhaul. If you need to come from money just to gain inclusiveness, or have to rely on an animal, or your heart rate only rises with stress and not actual activity, throw it out.

Her brother also just challenged her to a swimming race...
That's awesome!

Beach volleyball...love it...and we have some serious smoke shows playing for Canada. I don't care if these are the girls cut from the court version, it's still awesome. Too bad our #1 team sucked this morning. It was error after error. But.....om nom nom nom nom mong nom.

Awesome. Have it on now after a very un-Olympian run. Suffice to say being inspired hasn’t improved my running.

Love Heptathlon and Decathlon. Our guys are off to a great start today.
