Wonder how the big three leagues will dole out their B cup spots. Presumably they will have to go to Div. 1 teams? Or O45??

Interesting development...

In open age, the teams qualifying for A/B Cup are based on whether they register on "A" or "B" Provincial forms. For Masters I don't believe there's any such distinction.

This is stupid.

I don't know about "stupid" but it might be ill-conceived.

That being said, the 24 team format they had going was untenable. The Burnaby and Richmond teams were hardly factors and having an extra round made it difficult to coordinate the schedule as we saw last season when the finals were held a week later. Plus the Big 3 leagues all have shrinking Masters A divisions. Yes VMSL is up to 10 teams again but they had 7 spots under the old format which was slightly ridiculous, especially last season when they only had 8 teams in the league (I am aware Cinderella NorVan knicked a spot meaning only 6 of 8 qualified, but that is still a disproportionate amount of teams). Similarly, the FVSL was set to have 5 spots for a 7 team league this year and the VISL has only 4 teams in Masters "A" this season, but would have had 5 qualifying spots.

Again, not sure how this works for qualifying for the "B" spots. Presumably the VMSL/FVSL won't be able to send Masters Prem teams??

I have kinda wondered if it almost just time to go back to a single division Over 35 Masters division, then an over 40? Basically, anyone who is 35 or over is eligible. No "Under 35 player" allotments. If you are 45 and still have the chops to hang with the younger guys, all the power. Let the O35 guys draw from O40s as a Cat teams (or players who are over 35 and still playing Open) for regular season matches, and have at 'er.

It would mean for a 10 or 12 or even 15 strong Over 35 division. Yes, you'd still have your power house squads, yes, maybe creates some scheduling snafus / challenges, but really, the Over 35 Premier division has stopped being an attractive options for a lot of guys, especially as life usually takes a dramatic change on the personal front level at that time.

Anyhow, just a thought.

Go back to your knitting.

For the A cup do the 16 like we have done for years. Expanding it to 24 was also a dumb idea. 7 VMSL 4 FVSL 3 VISL and 2 to Burnaby which are grandfathered after the merger with NCSL a couple of years ago. Playing different leagues is way more fun for everyone, but RRSL has not shown it should be anywhere other than in B Cup so far, adding them recently seemed arbitrary. So 16.

Or of course it could all be based on Sir M's Excellent Power Rankings.

Does Sir M's Excellent Power Ranking still exist or has all the staff team retired?

Whats the deal with the way VISL Masters is set up? 4 teams in Masters A a whole bunch of teams in Masters B, and some in Masters C. It appears that they may interlock some games between divisions so not pure delineation? Anyone from the log that could advise?

When I was talking w Gnu I think the quality of their A Masters is down to four teams only. They do interlock for sure. Not sure how C works.

Doesn't sound ideal for week to week league play but come provincials time Gorge, U Vic and Cowichan are all solid teams.
