The Masters A Cup is out. Canucks 4E has his own delusional thoughts. Anyone else?

Not sure about "delusional", I would suggest that anyone who thinks Columbus or Westside are likely to slip up against a Masters Div 1 team might be the ones who need their heads examined...

Tough draw for the top quarter with fully half of the VMSL Master Premier teams and VUFC/Croatia getting drawn into the Prelim round. Looks like it should be smooth sailing to the semis for Columbus and Westside.

If the full Norvan team shows -- Blake, both Seddons, Wilson, Dodge, and Giancarlo in goal, then I'd say they have every chance of winning in the quarters.

They had a good run in the cup last season..made it to the semi-final I think.

They played us in cup last year...might have been the BCs and actually took a 1-0 lead if I recall.

We were up 3-0 at the hour mark but Croatia didn’t give up and made it interesting with a few minutes left to play. 3-2 final. On to PCOV.

VUFC 1 - 2 PCOV

Both teams looked full strength. Lots of subs. We were a step behind for most of the game.

West Van 4 Green Devils FC 0 last night at Ambleside. West Van scored at the 2 and 15-minute marks. One of the WV players then had to be subbed off for a Code Brown run back to the clubhouse for an emergency bowel evacuation; narrowly escaping the embarrassing experience of another club member who the previous week voided himself in his pants on the sidelines. Tons of subs, etc made by WV and two more goals in the second half. Green Devils had good spirit and got stuck in all game, never gave up in a tough draw for them.

Columbus 2-0 Rino's Bulldogs

We were unfortunately missing our 3 top scorers for our first crack at a Masters Premier team, which meant we had to try and play tight and hope we could snipe something on a counter or set piece. We started off looking very nervous, and could easily have been down inside 10 mins, but after that we righted the ship and played a solid half, preventing Columbus from getting in behind and limiting them to crossing opportunities and long shots while carving out a few half chances of our own. 0-0 at half.

Early in the 2nd half JoMo pushed forward from the midfield and got played through, took one touch to control and then slotted far post, bottom corner. A lovely goal. Shortly after that our centre midfield anchor went off with a hamstring injury, and that really put us in trouble. We lost the balance in midfield and started to get stretched, as guys pushed up in search of an equalizing goal. A Columbus attacker got one on one inside the box with our defender who made a lunging tackle to knock the ball away, but was adjudged by the referee to have committed a foul in doing so, and so a PK was awarded perhaps a bit harshly. JoMo slotted that one too, and then Columbus made use of their long bench as subs rolled through and we proceeded to waste any chance we got to peg back a goal.

Full credit to Columbus who were the better team from start to finish. It was a decent effort from our side, but definitely a bit toothless in attack. Rumour is that Croatia Stallions will refuse promotion again. I'm not sure our squad is anywhere near deep enough to take that spot if it falls to us. We might want to look at scheduling something with some other Prem sides to test the waters once we have our full squad back as it seems like most teams only have a single league game left, and we'll all be sitting around with nothing to do in March!

Looks like you have newly promoted to Premier excuse making down pat, so that's one thing...

Speaking of complaining, I took in the Flying Horses ve Croatia Horses game last night, in fact it was good to see several of our players out there to support. Unfortunately for the WV side, they gave up a late equalizer and then in PKs, shot one side and side-footed a couple at the rather old Croatia keeper. Croatia goes through 2-1 on PKs.

Predictions:
ICSF Columbus FC M-A - NVFC Norvan Lions M-A
Going for the upset in this match. Norvan are the class of Div.1 this year and had a more than impressive cup run last year.

West Van FC M - PCOV M-A
On paper this looks to be very much one sided but the PCOV team we played last round was motivated and full strength. That squad can run with just about any team in the division imo. It depends on how strong their line-up will be this week. West Van are the favourites however.

Coq Metro Ford M-A PCE - EDC FC Burnaby M
No upset here.

Westside FC M-A - Shaheen FC M
Should be straight forward for @Dancin Bear and crew.

In an upset PCOV beat West Van 3-2 at Ambleside, snapping the host's unbeaten streak at 19. West Van were not sharp/ into it as PCOV was and missed several sitters early. Play was scrambly throughout with dozens and dozens of fouls called which worked to PCOV's advantage. PCOV scored on a scramble about 30 minutes in after poor clearing. They went up 2-0 at about 50 minutes in. Crouch finally came on and scored almost right away for West Van, and then got another about 10 minutes after that. PCOV tried to sit back and absorb pressure, foul etc and counter. This worked well for them, with Frazao scoring a blinder on a giveaway from close to 30 yards out on a half turn, side netting top corner, one of those you hit like once every several years maybe with about a minute left, and it was their night. PCOV had 18 or so guys out, many of which I haven't seen out for them this year. This one opens up one spot for the BCs and PCOV are still in it.

I made a joke to my teammates that we should check their cards before our cup game because their squad was so much stronger than the one we played two weeks earlier in league play. Lol

Having said that, I recognized some players from Portugal’s Nations cup teams from over the years. At our age Life and injuries get in the way of footie unfortunately.

Nice win PCOV!

WestVan’ season was unbeaten to that point? Wow.

Columbus - 3
NVFC-Norvan - 1

Columbus took advantage of an overly tentative defensive approach Norvan had in the first half. Their attack and pressure kept us bottled up. A relatively early goal was there reward on an unfortunate missed block of a pass that deflected in behind our D. A cross and then a well hit shot was saved initially but the rebound was scooped and buried. Columbus got a 2nd before the half on a wish and prayer cross shot that found the magical line to the far top corner. Tough goal to concede. Both keepers made excellent first half save to keep the scoreline 2-0.
Bunch of changes at half for Norvan and the 2nd frame started much more brightly and the script flipped to one where we were pressing. Early in we scored on a rebound that came off the keeper and post. Ref offside ruling was a bit harsh.
We got a goal back not long after and the momentum shift was on. A lot of chances were generated over the last 30mins but we could not find the equalizer e needed. Unfortunately, near the end of the game we turned over the ball with everyone pressed forward. We ended up fouling their foward in our 18. PK...converted through the fingers of our diving goalie...3-1...game done.

An entertaining match by the end and Columbus did what they needed to seal the win. A Cup out...
