Penticton Tourney

So...how did this go for everyone? I've only heard one report: I guess Penticton won the whole damn thing, and I also heard SC Storm's Mike Wagstaff won the Golden Boot (8 goals)! I'll say it again...this guy really should be playing Premier, and any team would be nuts not to sign him. The last time I said this, a bunch of the Poco Dominion boys responded w/ sarcastic comments. I think Waggy scored 4 against them.

Any funny stories? I don't suppose anyone decided to get up in the middle of Red Robins and strip this year, huh?

;) :D

I played with Mike in youth and from what I remember he was a bull in a china shop... missed sitters, but seemed to score some good one's... he probably ripped up Penticton because while others were getting slashed in the beer gardens he was probably drinking water and playing video games!!!

Last time I checked Penticton is suposed to win their own drinking tourney!!!:D

You're probably correct on the drinking thing...but I'm sure Waggie had his share (or more). Winning the Golden Boot would mean more at a tourney like Kelowna or Burnaby Open. Still, a pretty good accomplishment, nonetheless.

I've played with Mike since I moved over to Surrey. He was (and still is) a bull in a China shop. Since I first met him, he's worked on his game harder than anyone I've ever met. He doesn't miss many sitters at all any more. He's turned into a genuine game breaker. It isn't often you come across a player that can consistently dominate a game, which he manages to do even when he doesn't score. Simply put, he's a freighttrain.

I'm always weary of making bold statements:rolleyes:, but he's a Kevin Hearns mold.

I'm still hoping to hear some funny stories here!

Seriously??? More like a clumsy bastard that everyone fears because of his strength... He has always put fear into defenders because of his style and size... I don't ever remember him having any skill or ability... work ethic yes, but brains no!!! He used to wind me up something fearce... I would put a ball through for him and he would squander chance after chance... That was years back, he didn't even make our High school team...

He has- trust me. He should have had a chance in the show last year, but he's not a "name" player. Not everyone is fed with a silver spoon through youth...some players are late bloomers. He'll probably stick w/ the Storm this year out of loyalty, but I think he should be moving up. I'm just here giving the guy some much deserved props.

Anyhow...still waiting to read about how some Poco players made asses of themselves again this year.:D

High school

Guiness, did the fact that Mike didn't "make" the High school team have anything to do with the fact he didn't tryout. My understanding is that he had surgery in his grade 11 year and the doctor instructed him not to play for six months?

Train,

Dude thought that Wag did play HS in grade 12, and actually scored a plethora of goals as a midfielder?

Dude can relate to Guinness's fits...Wag used to miss sitters- set up by Dude- by the bunches before he refined his game. Now Wag thinks the game very well, and is more patient on his chances. He's a finisher now. He still runs "through", rather than "around", the opposition though.

Dude likes speaking in 3rd person

Dude still wants to read more about the Penticton tourney, though. Was it a huge sausage fest, or were the birds out too?

I bet there's a spot on the Royals' roster, that is if their manager spent more time recruiting than sending abusive e-mails to players.

As for Premier, the Royals' BSL results are a clear sign that they'll be there in no time...

Abusive. That's rich. I suppose you work in a union? I think you should complain to your rep about the vast amounts of mental abuse you take from your soccer team manager. He'll be sure to tell the Rep: "That cnut Sweeney ain't starting next game!"

Recruiting: done and done.

Way to go degrading the topic of the thread. Once again: I want Penticton tourney stories! Snowman, how many times did Peat pull out that disgusting turkey neck of his and put it on display? That boy has a problem.

Tourney results

There was a great showing of the '82 Canucks at the tourney disguised as the GEU Squad.
:D
There were great performances by Snepsts and Hlinka throughout the tourney with Ivan putting in a tough defensive battle and only giving up one PK.

I must admit though that the tournament organizers need to look more closely at their draw before posting it.

There is nothing worse than driving all the way out there from Maple Ridge, to play Pitt Meadows in your first game.
I believe Penticton took the whole tourney.

As for Chris Peat, all I know is that he spent most nights filling his face with gay boy squishies.

The best part of the weekend was Saturday night after leaving Nightmoves. We're in line at the Subway (natch) when one of the Sandwich Artists takes offense at the slagging of a tank-topped fat loudmouth customer. With the vocal backing of Idiots FC the Sandwich Artist asks Tank Top to step outside. Of course everyone else follows them outside. Now, the Sandwich Artist is giving away about 60 lbs. to Tank Top and is duly pummeled. He does however have the crowd on his side for showing up.

But wait, it gets better.

The Filth arrive, handcuff the Sandwich Artist, throw him into the back of a cruiser and head over to get the low down from Tank Top. It seems as though the Fuzz didn't quite close the door of the cruiser properly as while they are pre-occupied, WHOOSH, off like a whippet goes the shirtless Sandwich Artist, hands tied behind his back, away up the alley, no doubt on a hunt for the one armed man who killed his wife. He probably would have gotten away with it too if it hadn't been for us meddling kids loudly cheering his getaway. Sure enough, a minute later the Sandwich Artist is escorted back to the scene of the crime, hogtied and set, face down in the same cruiser.

But wait, it gets better.

Shortly after Smokey leaves, a very angry woman arrives and I can only assume that she was related in some very close fashion to the Sandwich Artist as she proceded to beat the living snot out of Tank Top to the extent that he ended up being called Halter Top.

Honest to God, "Cops" couldn't come up with anything better.

Wendy's closed?

Why was the Sandwich Artist taken away and not the witty Tank top guy? Who wears a Tank top to the club? A wife beater yes, but a Tank top? Did it say "life is beach." ? :D

Good story.

I liked the "so I'm emceeing a wedding in Prince George" story as much, if not more.

They just seem more entertaining when you're the protagonist.

Also, I'm of the mind that all Subway employees should be taken out back and throttled. Especially those working at the Main and 17th location.

Gimmie my pickles, bitch.

I assume the fact that the Sandwich Artist was shirtless was enough to make him guilty in the eyes of the constabulary. Christ man, you watch wrestling but you don't watch Cops?

Sensei, I believe the Penticton Subway was having a special on 6 inch knuckle sandwiches.

You failed to tell us if by taking away the Sandwich Artist, did they leave you an unattended Subway? Nothing better than unlimited, free Subway @ 2:30.

I bet you thought making Subways was easy until now...there's a reason they call them Artists.

Ahhh yes, but Ivan also scored a beauty vs. Richmond to even his plus/minus.:D

Penticton was the usual gong show. Jinky didn't leave the beer garden as far as I know. Something about a cat and a litter box? What was the saying Jinks?

Close to accurate, but back then Wag had manny shoulder separations, he's the kind of guy that would just pop it back in place and go back on the park!!! Quality, however that does not makehim a skilled player... He would not have made that team in Gr. 11 due to that fact alone, back then we were blessed with skill... It's just too bad we decided that drinking til 4 am everynight was more important than winning the BC's!!!
