York9 FC’s off-season team building continues. Y9 announced on Tuesday that it has signed Nathan Ingham to a contract extension, ensuring that one of the league’s best goalkeepers will remain with the club through the 2020 CPL season. "He was fantastic for us this season and we’re looking forward to working with him. When you build a club, you want a solid ‘keeper which have with Nate," Y9 coach Jimmy Brennan said. Ingham, 26, was a key starter for York9 during its inaugural CPL campaign, playing a major role in helping the club finish third in the overall league standings. He carried the bulk of the goalkeeping duties for York, starting 26 of the team’s 28 regular season matches. He also started all six of Y9’s Canadian Championship matches, as the club bowed out to the Montreal Impact in the quarter-finals. Ingham recorded six clean sheets and made league-high 89 saves. In total, he saw 2,880 minutes of playing time across all competitions He was recognized for his stellar play in 2019 when he was named a finalist for the Golden Glove award, which goes to the CPL’s best goalkeeper. Ingham is up against Cavalry FC’s Marco Carducci and Connor James of FC Edmonton for the honour, which will be handed out on Nov. 26 during a special awards ceremony in Toronto. The signing of Ingham comes on the heels of Y9 releasing six players last week, including defender Daniel Gogarty. The club also added two players at the CPL-U SPORTS Draft with the selections of Carleton University striker Stefan Karajovanovic (fifth overall) and Cape Breton midfielder Isaiah Johnston (10th overall).
