The Halifax Wanderers Football Club is hosting its first annual New Canadian Night at Thursday’s home match (June 30) against Atlético Ottawa, presented by Tim Hortons and Payzant Home Hardware.

As part of the club’s mission to make the community stronger through sport, the Wanderers have partnered with ISANS (Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia ), YMCA Halifax/Dartmouth, and local groups to invite 500 new Canadians to attend the match. “We are proud that the community has embraced the club and made the Wanderers Grounds an inclusive venue for all,” Wanderers President and Founder Derek Martin said. “We are excited to welcome more newcomers to Nova Scotia at Thursday’s match and showcase how sports can bring our community together and strengthen it. We hope they become future fans or maybe, even future players for the club!” Attendees will include several Ukrainians who have recently arrived in Nova Scotia. Other guests are from Lebanon, Syria, Turkey, China, South Africa, Korea, Somalia, Afghanistan, Greece, the United Kingdom, Honduras and many more countries. “Last year, we worked with 10,000+ clients to help build a future in Nova Scotia.,” ISANS CEO Jennifer Watts said. “We are proud to support the efforts of the Wanderers to help us make our clients feel included in the local community.” “We want newcomers to receive a warm welcome to Nova Scotia and make connections in the community,” said Labour, Skills and Immigration Minister Jill Balser. “Soccer is one of the most popular sports in the world. We hope that opportunities to play and watch the sport will lead to friendships and a sense of home.” The Wanderers would like to thank our generous donors for this event, including Dash Hudson, Payzant's Home Hardware, VIRTIRA, KPMG, Viveau mineral water, and the WM Fares Group. More community-minded supporters are coming on board daily to support this incredible venture. ISANS: https://isans.ca/, @isans_ca on Twitter, Facebook
