Valour FC announced on Friday afternoon that midfielder José Galán will be returning to play in Winnipeg for the 2020 season. The 34-year-old from Léon, Spain, joined coach Rob Gale's squad midway through the 2019 season from Saudi Arabian side Al-Jabalain. He made 13 appearances for Valour, recording 900 minutes. Galán came to the CPL with an impressive wealth of experience, having begun his professional career with the Atlético Madrid reserve squads. After playing for several clubs in his native Spain, Galán travelled all over the world. He plied his trade in Thailand, Indonesia, Austria, Jordan, Cyprus, Romania, Finland, Hong Kong, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. "About this new season, I'm excited like my first year of pro, this is my 17th season being able to play and live of my passion, something that I’m extremely grateful."
The signing of Galán means Valour now has 14 players under contract, six of them internationals. CPL clubs are allowed a maximum of seven international players on their roster. Valour opens the 2020 CPL season away to York9 FC (April 17) and Pacific FC (April 26) before hosting Atlético Ottawa in its home opener on May 2.
