The North Star Shield wasn’t the only honour clinched at Calgary's ATCO Field at Spruce Meadows on Saturday. Forge FC's Tristan Borges, along with becoming a CPL Champion, claimed the Canadian Premier League’s inaugural Golden Boot title with 13 goals. The Golden Boot award is given to the top scorer in the CPL season, combining the Spring and Fall campaigns, and Finals 2019. Borges won the honour by finishing two goals ahead of Cavalry FC’s Dom Malonga and Pacific FC’s Terran Campbell in the league's scoring race. He will be awarded "the Hunter," a unique piece of carved Inuit soapstone, at the 2019 Canadian Premier League Awards ceremony in Toronto on Nov. 26. Borges was originally suspended for Saturday's game after picking up a red card in last week's Leg 1 of Finals 2019. But Canada Soccer's disciplinary committee later rescinded the red card on appeal, allowing Borges to play in Leg 2. Forge FC beat Calvary FC 1-0 in Hamilton in Leg 1 of the Canadian Premier League Finals. Forge became the first CPL Champions by earning another 1-0 win on Saturday in Calgary.
