York United and FC Edmonton played out to an entertaining 1-1 draw Sunday night in action at The Kickoff in Winnipeg, Man. The two sides were deadlocked after 45 minutes and appeared to be nip-and-tuck on a hot and unusually humid evening at IG Field. Second-half proceedings offered something much different – starting with Eddies right fullback Fraser Aird’s laser into the top left corner from well outside of the box. That forced York forward looking for an equalizer in their third match of the season and led coach Jimmy Brennan to make a series of changes, including adding Michael Petrasso up top. That choice paid off with the 25-year-old slipping through the defense and slashing home York’s only goal of the match. Controversy rocked the latter stages with a penalty called sending Easton Ongaro to the spot. But the lanky forward smashed his chance off the post and leaving the game deadlocked.
