Pacific FC has advanced to their first Canadian Premier League final after needing extra time to down Cavalry FC 2-1 at ATCO Field at Spruce Meadows in Calgary on Saturday. Terran Campbell’s smart back post goal capped off an impressive first half for the Tridents who entered the semi-final as the third seed. Cavalry equalized immediately after halftime when Karifa Yao headed home a near-post header off a corner, completing a tale of two halves at least in regulation time as the Cavs were all over the visitors for the remainder of the frame. A second goal never came, though, sending PFC and Cavalry to the first extra-time sequence in CPL history. The tale of two halves continued into additional time when substitute Kunle Dada-Luke scored a controversial goal at the end of the first frame when a sliding shot at the goalline went off Cavalry goalkeeper Marco Carducci and into the net. Cavalry, going all out in their attempts to score in the second frame, ultimately failed to level the score, sending their western Canadian rivals to the 2021 CPL Final. They’ll now await the winner of the second semi-final between first seed Forge FC vs. fourth York United set to be played Sunday at Tim Hortons Field (3pm ET live on OneSoccer). If Forge wins, they will host the 2021 Final on Sunday, December 5. Pacific will host the final Saturday, November 27 if York United is victorious. Here are some sights and sounds from Saturday's semifinal.
