The OneSoccer Today panel was joined on Monday evening by Valour FC coach Rob Gale, who provided a brief update on his squad-building process ahead of the 2021 CPL season. Gale explained that he's happy with how the Valour roster has come along so far, with three new players signed to complement a group with a lot of returning players from 2020. He added that, with 16 players currently signed, the club will have a few more new faces announced in the coming weeks. "Without tipping our hand too much, we've got irons in the fire," Gale teased. The coach added that he's prioritizing depth in his squad, explaining that competition for places in the starting lineup is particularly important over a longer CPL season in 2021. Valour recently re-signed goalkeeper Matt Silva, and although Gale did say the club may yet sign another 'keeper, he has faith in the 29-year-old to make an impact in the league. "Matt's more than capable of being a number one in this league," Gale said. The OneSoccer panel, with Andi Petrillo and Oliver Platt, went on to chat with Gale about the Canadian Olympic qualifying team, and the difficulties in assembling and deploying such a squad, as well as a broader conversation about youth development in Canada.
