Forge FC beat their 905 Derby rivals York United 3-1 on Saturday afternoon in an end-to-end match at Tim Hortons Field. Bobby Smyrniotis made three changes to his Forge FC team -- bringing in Triston Henry, Garven Metusala and Chris Nanco in for Baj Maan, Maxim Tissot and David Choinière. Jimmy Brennan only made one change for York, handing a first CPL start to Sebastián Gutiérrez in place of Alvaro Rivero. Tristan Borges gave The Hammers the lead in the 14th minute as Forge won the ball back in midfield and went charging back up the pitch. Nanco found Kyle Bekker with a cross, who headed the ball down to Borges, and Forge's star attacker did the rest. He took a touch before getting a low shot off with his right foot, beating Niko Giantsopoulos in the York net. Borges entered the match tied with former York United midfielder Joseph Di Chiara for the most goals in 905 Derby history, but took top spot with the first-half strike. It was also the 100th goal in Forge FC history in all competitions, and saw the home team take an early lead. Forge seemed to have a lot of momentum after the goal, but it would be York United who scored next. The visitors tied it up at one goal apiece in the 39th minute on an impressive counter-attack. After breaking out of his own half with the ball, Diyaeddine Abzi played a long pass to Michael Petrasso, who charged toward the Forge goal and seemed to be in a perfect position to take a shot at Tristan Henry. Petrasso opted to pass the ball across to a teammate instead, and it found its way back to Abzi. The Nine Stripes left back fired the tying goal into a gap that had now formed in the goal after Henry went to block Petrasso, and the match looked as though it was heading into halftime tied at 1-1. Forge had other ideas, and with one of the last attacks of the match, made it 2-1. After running onto a pass down the left wing, Borges set his feet and curled a perfect cross into Woobens Pacius. Pacius, who scored twice in Forge's 4-0 win over Atlético Ottawa midweek, headed the ball past Giantsopoulos to make it 2-1 going into the break. Both sides continued to create chances on counter-attacks, with Pacius coming close to a second goal on a breakaway run up the middle. If not for some strong defending from Dominick Zator, Pacius would've gone in all alone, but his shot was blocked by the York defender. After coming off the bench for Nanco in the first half, David Choinière made it 3-1 for Forge FC with a rocket of a shot in the 74th minute. Choinière received the ball from Kyle Bekker at the edge of the box, took a few touches to beat a pair of defenders and make some space for himself, before unleashing a rocket of a shot. The ball hit the bottom of the crossbar in the top right corner before crashing back down over the line. The two sides traded a few more chances as the clock slowly ticked toward the final whistle, but York were unable to make a comeback, and Forge took this 905 Derby 3-1. With the win, Forge move to the top of the CPL standings, jumping over Pacific FC, Cavalry FC and Valour FC.
