Pacific FC kept rolling at the top of the table on Monday night, beating Valour FC 2-0 at IG Field. Just three minutes into the match, Valour had to make an early substitution as Brett Levis -- who only returned from an injury recently -- was forced out with an issue in his leg, and was replaced by Rafael Galhardo, The visitors found the back of the net first after a brilliant passing play was finished off by Alejandro Díaz. Pacific midfielder Manny Aparicio slid a perfect pass to Josh Heard, which the left winger ran onto before firing a low pass across the box. Díaz made a nice run to the back post, placing a first-time shot past a diving Jonathan Sirois and into the net for the 1-0 lead. Valour came closest in stoppage time of the first half. Getting on the end of a dangerous corner from Galhardo, Austin Ricci's header forced a big stop out of Pacific's Callum Irving, and Pacific went into the break up 1-0. Irving was called on again in the 53rd minute, diving to his right to stop a William Akio shot that Stefan Cebara redirected in front. Cebara would be called offside moments later anyway, but Valour was starting to kick it up a notch. Despite the increased pressure from the home side, it would be Pacific FC that scored the second goal in the 73rd minute, extending their lead. After receiving a pass at the edge of the penalty area, Aparicio charged to his left and played a hard low cross, which second-half substitute Terran Campbell redirected home from close range. Both goals were fairly similar in that the centre-backs failed to track the run of the striker, or clear the incoming cross, and paid the price both times. Valour was mostly limited to long shots as the Pacific backline held strong throughout the remainder of the match, and failed to find the back of the net for the third contest in a row. They're now winless in six matches, only picking up a 0-0 draw with FC Edmonton in that span. Pacific, meanwhile, are up to 25 points on the season, four above second-place Cavalry, who have a game in hand. The two play each other on Friday, giving Pacific a chance to go seven points clear at the top of the table.
