Winger Mo Farsi’s marker for Cavalry FC was all that separated them and Valour FC Sunday, with the Cavs taking all three points in the ComeOn! Match of the Week. Sunday’s proceedings started slowly, with Cavalry settling into the match on their home turf. Few goalmouth moments came through the first half hour – the closest the Cavs came was a fast break blown down by the referee due to an apparent injury at the other end of the pitch. Tommy Wheeldon Jr.’s side remained on the front foot and they were awarded for it. In the 41st minute, Sergio Camargo’s breakneck left-footed through ball sent Farsi in on goal from the right side. The winger made no mistake, sliding a go-ahead marker past Jonathan Sirios and gave his team a much-needed boost as the two teams went into halftime. That momentum swing continued in Cavalry’s favour after the break with a Joe Mason shot and follow-up corner keeping the home fans on their toes. Valour’s bid for an equalizer began in earnest by the second half with their best chance spurred by on-loan centreback Rocco Romeo who followed the ball all the way to the six-yard box. End-to-end action followed along with a rather scrappy half as seven yellow cards were shown through the 90-odd minutes. At the end of the day, few chances were generated with just a handful of shots on target recorded. The result was Valour’s fourth loss in a row having gone pointless since leaving the opening season’s Winnipeg bubble top of the CanPL table. Cavalry, meanwhile, finished Matchweek 11 just one point adrift from Pacific FC for the top spot.
