Fans were treated to a thrilling top-tier clash in the Canadian Premier League as Cavalry FC beat Pacific FC 2-1 to go top of the table with a two-point lead. It wouldn't take long for the opening goal to arrive as an un-marked Daan Klomp thumped this header into the back of the net for 1-0 just six minutes into the game. Pacific goalkeeper Callum Irving was left stunned. With the hosts lunging forward, Coach Pa-Modou Kah's side struggled to have an impact in the final third. Despite maintaining more possession, Pacific's attacking talent grappled with Cavalry's unified defence. In fact, the visitors wouldn't have their first shot until around the 22nd minute when Kadin Chung sent his attempt well into the stands. A rivalry for the ages, it was only a matter of time until things eventually became heated on the pitch requiring the referee to step in and intervene. Alejandro Diaz and Klomp were cautioned in the process. Pacific were gifted an opportunity to draw things level after a sloppy pass from Marco Carducci fell right to Terran Campbell. But the forward couldn't get his shot off quick enough seeing the hosts escape a scare. Moments later, a mistake from the visitors almost allowed Cavalry to make it 2-0 but Ben Fisk's curling effort was about a foot short. Coming out after the break, coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr.'s side didn't step off the gas. Fisk and Mo Farsi relentlessly threatened down the wing which on multiple occasions almost saw Cavalry make things 2-0. Irving, however, was on high alert to keep the scoreline down. For the first 15 minutes of the second half, it seemed as though the visitors barely had a touch of the ball. Kah, as a result, brought on Marco Bustos, Manny Aparicio and Sean Young to try and light a fire under Pacific. But despite the triple change, the visitors struggled to create any viable opportunities. Instead down at the other end, a defensive error resulted in David Norman Jr. stepping up to score a pin-point free-kick to double Cavalry's lead. The match then took a dramatic turn as Young made it a one-goal game in the 89th minute. Campbell and Farsi would then have opportunities for their respective sides but neither could convert seeing things end 2-1 for the hosts.
