Canadian Premier League — Match #24 HFX Wanderers FC vs. Cavalry FC June 19, 2019 — Wanderers Grounds (6:00 p.m. ET, 7:00 p.m. AT) Watch Live: OneSoccer.ca

After another successful weekend, Cavalry FC will hope to continue rolling on Wednesday as they head east to take on HFX Wanderers FC in Halifax.

The Cavs dismantled their Al Classico rivals FC Edmonton on Saturday, winning 3-0 to extend their unbeaten streak to eight games across all competitions. They're inching closer and closer to the CPL's Spring championship; a win here against HFX would give them a chance to clinch the title next Saturday against Forge FC.

Meanwhile, the Wanderers are all smiles at the moment as well. They had the weekend off, but before that they beat Valour FC 2-0 in Winnipeg to knock them out of the Canadian Championship. HFX are on a four-game unbeaten streak of their own, their most recent loss coming on May 25 away to Cavalry.

After this midweek tilt, the Cavs return to Spruce Meadows for that all-important clash with Forge on Saturday, June 22 (6:00 p.m. ET, 4:00 p.m. MT, on OneSoccer). The Wanderers are also in action on Saturday, when they'll head to York Region to take on York9 FC (3:30 p.m. ET, on OneSoccer).

KEYS TO THE MATCH

  • Halifax Citadel: The Wanderers, more than any team (save Cavalry, of course), have made their own stadium a true fortress. They're 3-1-1 at Wanderers Grounds, the only blemish a flat 1-0 CanChamp loss to Vaughan Azzurri (which still saw them through on away goals). This will be a tough place for Cavalry to play, as HFX have taken full advantage of their home turf.
  • Nico Pasquotti: Simply put, the Lethbridge native has emerged as one of the most dynamic players in the CPL. He's Cavalry's best wide threat, and he's fully capable of either delivering a perfect key pass or scoring himself. Pasquotti scored his second CPL goal on Saturday against FC Edmonton as he seems to be establishing himself as perhaps Cavalry's best attacker.
  • Desperation time: The Wanderers are hanging on by a thread in the CPL's Spring season. They technically still have a chance to win the title (which is more than most teams can say), but they absolutely must win this game to stay alive. Stephen Hart's side may, then, approach this one with a little more desperation than usual as they jostle for position.

Q: Will all goals that are scored be assisted? A: So far, there have been 32 goals scored in the Canadian Premier League. Of those 32, 26 (or 81%) were assisted by another player. It would be a smart bet to believe that in any given game, all goals will be assisted. Q: How many total saves will there be in the match? A: By taking a similar approach to this question as the previous one, you'll see that goalkeepers have collectively made 125 saves across 23 league games. That's 10.8 saves per game between both goalies. Q: Will a Canadian-born player score? A: Easy answer: yes. A majority of the league is Canadian, and a majority of the starting XIs for clubs are Canadian as well. Believe in the power of maple syrup and mounties, and believe in the Canadian CanPL players.
