OneSoccer's panel of Asa Rehman, Gareth Wheeler, and Oliver Platt was joined on Thursday afternoon by Kyle Bekker to discuss Forge FC's CPL championship run at The Island Games and subsequent celebrations, as well as what's next for the club. Bekker gave some insight into Forge's time in PEI, explaining that the 11-game season was an intense grind, which he said puts the title up there with some of the most difficult accomplishments of his career. He also revealed that, like in 2019, the club celebrated pretty intensely after lifting the North Star Shield (resulting in an early-morning bus ride that Bekker likened to The Walking Dead). The panel asked Bekker a variety of questions about the tournament and Forge's performance, with both the midfielder and Platt jumping to defend another Forge player in Paolo Sabak. "If you see what this guy does on the field he's an unbelievable talent," Bekker said, pointing out that Sabak's contributions to the club stretched well beyond goals and assists. Forge's upcoming Concacaf League run and the Canadian Championship final were major topics of discussion as well, with Bekker heaping praise on first-round opponent Municipal Limeño's now-famous cartoon pig crest. He added that success in these upcoming competitions will further cement Forge's place as the gold standard of the CPL. "We're doing our best to start a hardware store over at Tim Hortons Field," he quipped. As for rumoured MLS interest in him? Bekker said he still hasn't heard anything. "I'm happy in Hamilton," he said. "I'm here for the foreseeable future, if they want me." To watch OneSoccer’s Hangout from Thursday in full, CLICK HERE.
