Jeff Paulus' new-look FC Edmonton squad was the hot topic of discussion during OneSoccer’s Player & Pundit Hangout on Tuesday. Joining OneSoccer's Oliver Platt, Kurt Larson, and Adam Jenkins, the Eddies coach discussed his 2020 squad, and the new and younger direction he's taking for the upcoming CPL season. "We’re changing the way we’re playing; the guys we have brought on have bought in," Paulus said. "I didn’t think we needed wholesale changes at this club, but I appreciate how far back we were from the top two teams." When asked about his veteran talent in 2019, Paulus admitted: "I tried to force out that 4-3-3 which didn’t fit the team at the time, I’ll admit to that. I also underestimated the level of CPL, too. I’ll wear that." FCE parted ways with eight Year 1 players this off-season, including Randy Edwini-Bonsu, James Marcelin, and Tony Tchani. Paulus also gave fans a preview of his first-choice backline, featuring Duran Lee, Ramon Soria, Amer Didic, and Mélé Temeguia. "I wanted to go young, too" said Paulus, who also mentioned incoming under-21 signings Anthony Caceres and Chance Carter. "I made that decision right at the end of the season. ... These young players are going to surprise people." Subscribe to OneSoccer’s YouTube for more.
