Cavalry FC coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. has formally organized his group for their 2020 pre-season, adding five trialists to the 19 players signed and confirmed for Year 2. Former York9 FC fullback Stephen Furlano highlights the group on tryout, which also includes 2019 Cavs midfielder Victor Loturi, ex-Blainville fullback Mohammed Farsi, Cape Breton Caper Euan Bauld, and Abe Dukuly, a former FC Edmonton attacking midfielder. Furlano, a Toronto FC Academy product from Barrie, Ont., made 15 appearances for the Nine Stripes last year, playing 512 minutes as a fullback and a winger before being released in November. Farsi, 20, played both legs of Blainville’s 2019 Canadian Championship first-round tie with York9 FC. Cavalry’s six-week pre-season will include a 10-day training camp in Mexico. The side will face three Mexican professional teams during the trip, which will run from March 24 to April 2. "This is a great opportunity for us to break away from the winter conditions here and bond together as a team, facing some top-quality Mexican teams in testing conditions to play," Wheeldon Jr. said. "The training venue we have in Monterrey is first class and affords us the chance to work behind closed doors as we build towards the 2020 campaign." Wheeldon Jr.’s 19-player squad list for 2020 features 14 returnees from the Spring and Fall-winning side from 2019.
