Friday afternoon's OneSoccer Player & Pundit Hangout was joined by Vancouver-based radio personality Dan Riccio, who hosts "Reach Deep" on Sportsnet 650, and also does occasional play-by-play for OneSoccer. Riccio chatted all things football with OneSoccer's usual pundits, Kurt Larson, Oliver Platt, and Adam Jenkins, as the four went around the table with several thought-provoking questions. Beginning with a discussion of why the Vancouver Whitecaps couldn't go farther in the MLS playoffs while Alphonso Davies was there, Riccio recalled frustration at seeing the club struggle to surround the budding star with talent. "That year was probably my biggest pet peeve," he said. "You knew Davies was special. You had this player who you weren't paying Designated Player-type of money, and your biggest off-season signing was Kei Kamara." "They needed to do more than that." The four went on to search for soccer parallels to other major sports stories of the past few months. Which player switching sides would most resemble Tom Brady's off-season move in the NFL? Who would be soccer's version of Scottie Pippen? All four pundits also gave their opinions on the European soccer leagues taking different paths with regards to their current season — France's Ligue 1 recently cancelled the campaign and awarded the title to Paris Saint-Germain, while the German Bundesliga looks set to resume training in the near future.
