CanPL.ca’s Charlie O’Connor-Clarke and Marty Thompson took their two Football Manager 20 CPL superteams to the virtual pitch this week to determine which side was better – and which CPLers would shine in a best-on-best scenario. To review the teams, check out the draft results here. As for the result? FC Edmonton defender Amer Didic and Pacific FC fullback Marcel De Jong shined as Charlie’s side squeaked out a 2-1 victory against Marty's team over two legs. Marty’s international newcomer experiment fails

After drafting first-year Cavalry striker Jair Cordova with his first pick, Marty put a lot of pressure on his international selections, which included fellow Cavs newcomer Richard Luca, Forge FC defender Daniel Krutzen and Brazllian HFX Wanderers centre back Erik Santos. Cordova, who boasts the best "finishing" rating (15) of any CPLer, failed to score on two clear-cut chances. Luca didn’t fare much better, though the ball repeatedly ended up on his head to Marty’s displeasure. On the other end, Charlie had a good run with his international group, specially HFX Wanderers newcomer Alex Marshall and York9 attacker Adrián Ugarriza.
Amer Didic, Dominick Zator a top-tier defending combo

In arguably the most realistic prognostication, Charlie’s centre-back pairing of Amer Didic and Dominick Zator were excellent together. Keeping Marty’s all-star group to just two clear-cut chances, Charlie’s true to life drafting technique worked wonders.
Louis Beland Goyette wins MVP

Is this accurate? HFX Wanderers’ midfield maestro was awarded this theoretical all-star game’s MVP award by collecting a 7.45 rating out of ten. Beland-Goyette’s screamer for Marty’s team in Leg 1 inflated the number greatly – but would this happen in real life.
