DERBYSTAR will provide official matchday and training balls for the Canadian Premier League for the 2020 season, the league announced Wednesday via its official TikTok channel. DERBYSTAR, the official ball supplier of the German Bundesliga, has designed and produced a CPL-branded version of its signature ball, BRILLANT APS (Advanced Performance System) – the same used in the German top flight. "We are thrilled to be able to offer the first customized ball which the CPL, Member Clubs, players and all the fans can identify with and truly call their own," said a DERBYSTAR Canada spokesperson. "We are very happy that our best competition ball will now be played in professional Canadian soccer as well," DERBYSTAR Germany spokesperson Andreas Filipovic added. "The cooperation with the young and ambitious Canadian Premier League reflects our reputation as the ball specialist." The BRILLANT APS is known for its durability, consistency in flight and flexibility even in wet conditions and at low temperatures. "We are truly excited to partner with a world-class premium brand such as Derbystar that is a leader in its category and recognized for providing the highest quality products," CPL Commissioner David Clanachan said. "Part of our goal is to align with brands that are innovative and will enhance the growth and development of soccer in Canada and DERBYSTAR delivers on that." With Wednesday’s ball announcement, the CPL also unveiled a TikTok channel, its first foray into the social media platform for short-form video. League officials promise to "capture training, skill videos, fan moments, and exclusive player content" for supporters in Year 2.
