Canadian Premier League Commissioner David Clanachan confirmed that the league is seeking federal funding due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in an interview with Sportsnet 590 The Fan on Thursday. "We’re looking for short-term funding of $15 million," Clanachan said. "Basically, we’re contemplating what we can do to return to play. We’re looking at several different scenarios. "It’s about our players, staff, at the league level – it’s about getting us through. It’s more of a hand-up than a hand-out." Like all professional sports, the CPL is affected by the prevention of public gatherings, something Clanahan reiterated in the interview you can listen to here. "No revenue is caused by no live fans," Clanachan stated. "No jobs for our 400 staff or 1,600 part-time staff." When asked about a long-term delay or even cancelling the 2020 season by host Stephen Brunt, Clanchan said league officials are "not at that point" yet. "We’re very nimble now. We’re eight teams, our rosters aren’t huge. "We’re set up to adapt."
