Cavalry FC announced on Monday that they have signed local Canadian midfielder Max Piepgrass to a developmental contract. The 17-year-old comes to the club from the Calgary Foothills system, similar to many of Cavalry's young players. “Max is a terrific young player that is technically proficient and plays with very good game intelligence," said Cavalry coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. "He also displays that edge you need to make the step from youth to pro. Now this gives him the chance to experience being in the professional environment, CPL’s ethos into establishing that pathway for young Canadians.” Piepgrass added: “I’m excited for the opportunity to play at this level, it’s been a dream of mine since I was a kid. I want to thank Foothills Soccer Club and my coaches for helping to get me here.” The young midfielder will be available to Wheeldon for upcoming matches, including their next contest -- a showdown with Al Classico rivals FC Edmonton on Tuesday night at Spruce Meadows (9 pm ET/7 pm MT).
