Cavalry FC is pleased to confirm the official securement and return of 11 core players for the Canadian Premier League 2022 Season. Returning are Marco Carducci (CAN), Tyson Farago (CAN), Tom Field (GBR), David Norman Jr. (CAN), Elliot Simmons (CAN), Elijah Adekugbe (CAN), Joe Mason (GBR), Joe Di Chiara (CAN), Ali Musse (CAN), Sergio Camargo (CAN), and Anthony Novak (CAN).

Carducci, Adekugbe, and Camargo, are all entering their fourth consecutive season with the club. There is a clear intent to maintain the high standards established by these original players under the direction of Head Coach and General Manager Tommy Wheeldon Jr. from the first season in 2019. Camargo continues to bring a strong presence to the pitch, with 4 goals and 23 appearances during the 2021 Canadian Premier League Season. Carducci has produced 20 clean sheets out of his 63 appearances over the past three seasons and continues to demonstrate quality leadership within the team. Adekugbe returns to play this year after an unfortunate Achilles tendon injury during the 2021 preseason camp saw him out of commission for the 2021 season, and the club is delighted to welcome him back to the pitch.

Simmons was first signed to the club in 2020, and his premiere season took place at the Canadian Premier League Island Games in Prince Edward Island during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. The midfielder has made a total of 35 appearances for the club during the 2020 and 2021 regular seasons, and his technicality and confidence on the ball makes him a valuable player on the pitch.

English players Field and Mason both had their debut season with the club in 2021 after being signed from the United Kingdom. They each bring valuable experience to the Cavalry FC team, having played for top-notch clubs across various leagues in England. Mason made an impressive debut in the CPL, scoring 7 goals out of his 15 appearances during the 2021 regular season. Field had a strong start to the 2021 season, but unfortunately underwent a 12-week recovery period after suffering from a torn hip flexor during the 2021 CPL Kickoff in Winnipeg. The left-back was able to return to the pitch in October to finish out the season, and is in good form entering preseason camp.

Norman, Di Chiara, Musse, and Novak are all returning for their second season with the club after a successful 2021 season. Norman came to the club after being called up to the national team for the men’s Concacaf Olympic Qualifying Championship in Mexico in the winter of 2021. The midfielder has a solid left foot and brings an aggressive presence to the pitch, winning 31 out of his 42 tackles for a 74% success rate during the 2021 season. Di Chiara is a strong box-to-box midfielder, with his adaptability making him a strong asset for his team. Musse is a solid 1 v 1 attacker with a great end product, providing the team with an attacking threat on the wing. Goalkeeper Farago established an impressive record in his first season with the club, maintaining 3 clean sheets out of 4 starts, demonstrating his stability in the net. Novak brings a winning mentality to the team, having been a part of the 2020 CPL season winning club Forge FC, and is valued on the pitch for his decisiveness and his ability to score.

“We are delighted to confirm the high number of quality returnees for the 2022 season. Having experienced a higher than normal turn over of players in the 2021 season, we wanted to continue to build the chemistry and depth required to be successful in this league. This group, including guys that have been here since day 1, have quality and character that give us a great platform to build on as we finalize our other ongoing negotiations.” - Tommy Wheeldon Jr (Head Coach & General Manager, Cavalry FC)
