Thursday’s OneSoccer Player & Pundit Hangout session saw Canadian national team forward Lucas Cavallini join the show to talk about a variety of topics. Cavallini chatted with OneSoccer hosts Adam Jenkins, Asa Rehman, and Oliver Platt, who asked him about the progress he thinks Canada has made under current coach John Herdman. "He’s serious about the future for Canada… We’re going in the right path right now," said Cavallini, who plays in MLS for the Vancouver Whitecaps. "We’re almost there. There’s still a long way to go, but we’re on the right track." He later added: "This is a process. Since John took over as coach, everything's been going uphill.” To watch the OneSoccer’s Player & Pundit Hangout with Lucas Cavallini in full, click here. In addition to the Canadian national team, Cavallini discussed how he ended up in Uruguay as a teenager with TFC’s Jonathan Osorio after playing for local youth teams in the Toronto area. "We went down, we went for two months (on trial) and they liked us … Things happened for a reason. I ended up staying by myself and started a career for myself,” Cavallini explained. Cavallini revealed how he earned the moniker “The Tank” after starting his pro career in South America. "Going back to when I just started playing in Uruguay, the first training session I set a standard for myself – I had a really good practice. I remember we were having a scrimmage and I was doing well, and just from being big and physical, that’s where the (nickname) came from,” Cavallini recalled. Cavallini and the panel also discussed how he’s keeping fit during this period of self-isolation, what the sporting landscape will look like once things get back to normal, and much more. “The world needs football, but football needs the world,” Cavallini said.
