The Canadian women’s national team that captured Bronze at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London has been named to the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame’s 2019 class of inductees. Entering in the team category, the London 2012 side was the first Canadian group to capture a Summer Olympic Games medal in a team event since 1936. "The London 2012 Olympic team has gone down in history as a watershed moment for women’s soccer in Canada," said Canada Soccer President Steven Reed. "Canada Soccer congratulates the players and the staff from this remarkable team that made history in Canadian sport." Canada defeated France 1-0 in the Bronze medal match, with Diana Matheson scoring the deciding goal. Captain Christine Sinclair scored six goals over the tournament, including a hat trick in their 4-3 semi-final loss to the United States, which drew a record 2.4 million viewers. Canada would go on to capture Bronze again at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
