In the latest episode of the CanPL.ca Newsroom, the CanPL.ca editorial crew of Kristian Jack, Charlie O’Connor-Clarke, Benedict Rhodes, Marty Thompson, and Brady Reid recap a whirlwind three-match midweek at The Kickoff in Winnipeg, Man. The gang applaud Cavalry FC’s comprehensive 2-1 win over Forge FC (2:12) starting with Anthony Novak scoring against his former team. Ali Musse also stood out as a second goalscorer but none was more impressive than Daan Klomp, who helped scuttle Forge’s attack and caught the attention of Kristian, calling the performance the best of any centre-back in Winnipeg. Is this the best contenders Cavalry have been in 2021? Next up was arguably the most exciting match of the CanPL season: Pacific 4, Atlético Ottawa 2 (14:07). Benedict fell asleep during this one, not to rub it in, and only missed an Alejandro Diaz hat trick, two Ottawa sendings off (Ben McKendry and coach Mista), and an eye-catching performance from the Tridents. The panel also dissect just about everything from the match that ended without either head coach on the sideline... Finally, the show concludes CPL chat with Easton Ongaro finally breaking the duck, scoring for FC Edmonton in a 1-0 win over HFX Wanderers FC (24:20). Will the goals now flow for Edmonton’s talisman? Also, super-sub Fraser Aird continues his brilliant performances – this time off the bench. Plus, the gang checks in on the Canadian women’s national team at the Tokyo Olympics and reviews their 1-1 draw to hosts Japan and previews the men’s team’s quarter final tilt with Costa Rica at the Gold Cup.
