The Canadian men's national team has learned a little more about its schedule for the upcoming summer, with the official draw for the 2022-23 Concacaf Nations League being held on Monday night. Canada, who were seeded in Pot 1 alongside Mexico, the United States, and Costa Rica (the top four sides based on Concacaf ranking), will play in Group C against Honduras and Curaçao in League A -- the top level of the competition. This year's Nations League gets underway in a few months with the first four matchdays of the group stage occurring in June 2022, although it will conclude in 2023 with the final two group matches followed by semifinals and final. Each side in the group will be each other both home and away, with the first-place team advancing to the knockout stage. The tournament also serves as qualification for the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup; the top two teams from each group qualify directly, while the third-place side will be relegated to Nations League B and forced to qualify for the Gold Cup via a preliminary tournament. Concacaf held the Nations League for the first time beginning in 2019, which saw Canada qualify to League A and play in the group stage against the United States and Cuba (since Canada were in Pot 2 at the time). They defeated Cuba both home and away, and beat the U.S. in a memorable 2-0 win at BMO Field, but a 4-1 loss in Orlando to the Americans meant Canada finished second and thus didn't advance to the knockout round. The U.S. ultimately won the competition in June 2021, defeating Mexico in extra time to lift the trophy in in the tournament's inaugural edition.
