Atlético Ottawa forward Ryan Telfer will be returning to his national team in June, with Friday's news that he has been called up to Trinidad and Tobago for next month's FIFA World Cup qualifying matches. Trinidad has two games scheduled for the early-June window, a pair of qualifiers against Bahamas and Saint Kitts and Nevis, on June 5 and 8, respectively. They currently sit second in Group F in Concacaf's first round of qualifying, having beaten Guyana and drawn with Puerto Rico during the last window. Telfer played in both previous matches, scoring a goal in Trinidad's 3-0 win over Guyana. “I have had some success with the national team so far," Telfer said in a release. "I can’t wait to get out and represent my country in some of the most important games I have ever been a part of." Telfer has nine total caps for the Trinidadian national team, and he's scored four goals. He first joined them in September 2019, debuting against Martinique and becoming the first-ever CPLer to score an international goal in just his second-ever game for the country. Though born in Mississauga, Ontario, Telfer elected to represent Trinidad and Tobago. The 27-year-old attacker recently signed for Atlético Ottawa after two seasons with York9 FC (now York United). He has played 33 total games in the CPL, scoring eight goals. He's the latest CPLer to receive an international call-up for this FIFA window, after Pacific FC midfielder Matthew Baldisimo accepted a nod to the Philippines two weeks ago.
